Kerry News today
John Kerry: “Scientific Censorship Has No Place in the United Sates of America”
February 16th, 2006 @ 4:33 pm

John Kerry issued a statement today in the wake of the recent news that political appointees (appointed by the Bush administration), at NASA “stopped scientific information from being released during the last campaign”…

“Scientific censorship has no place in the United States of America. Revelations that political appointees at NASA stopped scientific information from being released during the last campaign and that NOAA was forced to retract statements on global warming during last year’s powerful hurricane season raise issues of abuse of power as serious as any I’ve seen in 30 years.

1. Kenyon College - that's really interesting
They are the liberal arts college where some students waited over 10 hours to vote for Kerry.

6. I only recognized it because it was one
of the guidance counsler's recommended schools for my daughter - we didn't go see it but the name was familiar because of that.

8. Wow! That is really sweet
From the announcement at the Kenyon College site:

Kenyon students, most of them voting in their first presidential election, found themselves waiting up to eleven hours to cast their ballots, as the village's two voting machines were overwhelmed by the heavy turnout. The polls in Gambier couldn't close until nearly 4:00 a.m., making the village community center the last voting precinct in the Eastern time zone to shut its doors. The students' determination to vote caught the attention of the national news media, and a number were interviewed on radio and television, earning praise from commentators as well as Kenyon alumni and parents.

"It's an honor for me to speak at Kenyon College. These are some of the most passionate, dedicated, involved young Americans out there, and as graduates they will go from being student activists to citizen activists," says Kerry. "Their generation will help shape and even decide many of the most important issues and biggest debates America will face in the twenty-first century."

I think Sen. Kerry feels a connection to these students and wants to 'pay them back' for their devotion to voting. That's just wonderful.

2. Good!
I'm so tired of all this anti-science nonsense. My grandfather was a very religious Christian guy and a leader in his church and he worked at NASA for several years. We all love science (my dad is a civil engineer). I'm proud of Kerry.

I take a nap and Atrios links to me! Glad to see that Duncan reads my blog and pays some attention to JK! Nice treat to wake up up to and the Agonist grabbed it too.

Thanks Rox, I had not checked the stat counter yet. We've had a few nice links this week, Dibgy, Raw Story a couple of times and C&L a couple of times.

Edited to add: When Atrios links so goes the liberal blogosphere. We've only been linked there once before but the story is making it's way across the blogosphere now with Raw and C&L picking it up as well.

11. this is a very important issue
one thing i love about Kerry is his attention to math and science education and funding. it wasn't just some general statement about how kids need to do better. it was something he was interested beyond just school years. he sees how important it is to the future of the country and our standing in the world.
