The statements by all the participants are gripping.

Tears were streaming down watching that documentary, and the thing is that John Kerry was fighting the same fight back in the 70's, and this administration filled with chickenhawks, just doesn't get it. They should be ashamed.

All the speakers were great. I remember Del Sandusky telling that story, but I didn't think it was 30 years after Vietnam, he had his brother to turn to, and that brother did not turn him down. I loved it when Del said "those guys down in Texas didn't serve with John Kerry, "I SERVED WITH JOHN KERRY". This hug is for Del. :hug:

When that story came out on this event and it was posted in LBN, whoever wrote it cut short on JK's full quote to his response to the protester. I think many here on DU need to see this.

I felt so sorry for him. I realized when he was speaking that he and the other crew were out there before Kerry took over their boat and had had the previous officer injured enough he was sent home. From Tour of Duty, it sounded like they had already gone through too much even before they got Kerry as an officer.

Del's story totally blows apart the RW stereotype of Kerry. Del is clearly a blue collar guy who really went through some very bad times. That 30 years after Vietnam, he would call Kerry when he was about to give up shows an enormous amount of faith in someone who he had hardly seen in years and whose life was totally different. That Kerry went out of his way to help him and to stay in contact with him shows a lot about Kerry.

I agree on the quote - they did give the full quote as reported. I agree that the longer quote is better - though the short quote was ok.

My heart goes out to the family of Jeff Lucey. It was so awful that his father had to see that look of peace on his son's face, only after his tragic loss. Sen. Kerry is right, no more Jeff Lucey's, not ever again. I just wish that those in Congress who pinch the pennies and pretend that they are looking after the American people would see this and see the need and stop fighting the effort to aid the veterans who need it.

Damn, that was amazing. When Max was speaking you could Sen. Kerry behind him and that mix of emotions that went across his face as Max recounted what he had been through. There really is that sense of bonding and brotherhood between them. You sensed it again when Del Sandusky spoke. All that stuff that is there and understood in nods, handshakes and eyes. All that stuff that doesn't need to be spoken, it's simply there. Wow!

Geez, you know, there really aren't any more at home like Senator Kerry. He really is a very unique person, both in the state and nationally. That makes watching this sad because the country missed an incredible opportunity in '04 to elect someone who doesn't just see people as little columns of figures on a page but as real people with real needs and problems. Damn, that hurts all over again.

My father had PTSD from his war. I can remember all the times when he was in the secret place where no one else could go. I wish there had been programs like what Sen. Cleland started around for him. It might have helped a lot. It might have shed some light into those places he went that had no windows and no light and where he barred the door to those who sought entry. I only saw a fraction of those places in the poems he read to me and the books and stories he would incidentally point out to me and make sure that I read a particular passage and then not tell me why. IT would have helped with the long lament that he went through. Sigh!
