3/20 - Kerry Announces Brigid O'Rourke as Massachusetts Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 20, 2006

John Kerry Announces Brigid O’Rourke as Massachusetts Press Secretary

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) has hired former Emmy award-winning CNN producer Brigid O’Rourke to serve as his new Massachusetts Press Secretary.

“Brigid has built a great reputation in the news industry and in public relations – she’s known as one of the best and brightest. We're lucky to have her on board. ” Kerry said. “She loves Massachusetts and really gets what makes our state so special. Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious, and I look forward to working with her.”

O’Rourke worked for CNN for seven years, on CNN’s Inside Politics from the network's Atlanta headquarters and in CNN’s Boston bureau. As a producer of Inside Politics, she traveled with the 2004 presidential campaigns of both parties, covering the most pivotal moments of the primary and general election seasons. O’Rourke also worked as a freelance producer in Boston tackling the biggest issues and news in the state.

O'Rouke most recently was a senior account executive at Newman Communications in Brighton, where she managed a number of clients and worked with major news outlets such as the New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, and Fox News.

“Brigid has a real knack for the media world, and we’re so thrilled to have her on our team,” Kerry added.

Brigid, 29, earned her Masters in Political Science from Georgia State University. She is a graduate of Ithaca College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism.

4. Brigid O'Rourke
That'll go over big in Southie. That's about as Irish a name as exists in captivity. I like it. Good luck to her. She will, I think, need it as this awful second year of the 109th (weasel) Congress continues.

6. Whoa! That is pretty cool!
I bet she is the only Emmy-Award winning PR Person currently working for a sitting US Senate in the country. That's pretty sweet. (My Senator rocks. He gets Emmy Award Winners. Wow!)
