I think Sen. Kerry picked up some good advice today!
Edited on Thu May-11-06 08:40 PM by TayTay
Senator, we the undersigned denizens of Liberalwebloggia advise you to:

Shut down the Senate. Ahm, presumably you have the keys to the place and if you accidentally took them with you for the weekend, well then, maybe you could leave them at home in Boston or something. Without the keys, they can't open the place up and all our problems would be solved. The duplicate set was given to Sen. Allen last year and he ate them or something, so if you lose the last set, no business can be conducted. Nice move.

Object to every Unanimous Consent request. Nothing says love to the liberal blogosphere like sheer obstructionism. Seriously, get a newspaper or a really long paperback (something not too steamy, Senate session are televised you know) and just park yourself at your desk and yell out, "I object" every ten minutes of so. All the other Senators will love you for it, trust us. It really is that easy.

Have a press conference on the steps of the Capital. Bring along Sen. Russ Feingold. Publicly announce that you are going to to be surgically joined at the hip. That way, whatever the good Senator from Wisconsin does, you can do too! The web will love it. Nothing says loving like surgically attaching yourself to another Senator. (No, it can't be Senator Cantwell. The liberal web doesn't trust her. It has to be Feingold. No, not even Boxer. That's so 2005 you know.)

Filibuster everything. And do it the old-fashioned way, just stand and talk and talk and talk. The other Democratic Senators, especially the Nelsons, will love it! You know, there have been quite a few advances in the human cybernetics field that you might want to look into. Medical science can make is so you could talk until August and never have to leave the floor. (Just get that special Senate permission for 'staff' to come on the floor and change the batteries and stuff and you are solid for three months of non-stop talking.) That'll shut it down but good.

Please tell everyone that you are personally sending a jet to Iraq to evacuate the troops. The government takes too long to get these things done and Teresa has one lying around and well, just get to it. You can take the troops out in groups of 40 or so. It will take at least two or three weeks, but this will show you mean business.

BTW, we think you should serve on every Senate Committee. That way, we know who to blame when judges go through that we don't like or CIA directors get appointed that we don't like or when Rethugs try to put through bad Health Care bills. If you served on and ran every committee you know, the Senate wouldn't be in this kind of trouble. Something to think about, don't you think.

Anyway, just some friendly advice from Liberalwebloggia. Have fun storming the castle and let us know if you need people with pitchforks. It sort of works in the movies and we would be willing to give it a shot. (And your welcome, pre-emptively.)

5. But it's so easy GV!
Edited on Thu May-11-06 09:01 PM by TayTay
We can just Shut It Down. Why a child could do it. All you have to do is close your eyes and clap your hands together really really hard and loud and say, "I do believe in Shutdowns. I do believe in Shutdowns." And the whole place will just slowly shut down. (Maybe everyone goes to sleep or something, that's why no other Senators or Congressmen notice and sort of put up a fuss about it.)

Hey, it works for Tinkerbell in Peter Pan. It could work here.

And I have rethought my idea about being surgically joined at the hip with Sen. Feingold. Russ is like ten inches shorter in height than Kerry. This will undoubtedly result in severe discomfort and somebody getting a hip replacement somewhere down the line. I can scratch that idea in favor of a daily Vulcan Mind Meld. They could meet for breakfast every morning and just sort of get that out of the way before the croissants arrive. (It's easy.)

BTW, I am only funny when I am mentally fried. This is actually quite disturbing. The better part of my brain comes out when I can't stop it. Hmmmmmm.

4. I'm giggling extra hard because I was showing my Mom
Going Upriver tonight, and there's this part where Kerry is answering a question about another Senator who said "he was doing more to stop the war than those kids on the Mall", and he says that the Senator should get on that floor and STOP THE WAR. I really think he doesn't mind the "shut down the government" stuff because he used to be an activist and knows how it feels to be impatient to get action NOW. In a word -- he was a bit like some of those posters a long time ago -- and it's more the EMOTION that he'll take from all of those posts, and not the "advice".

Anyone else find his second post pretty damned funny. Translation of what he said?

"For crying out loud, dimwits, how many times do we have to get the word out that I support Feingold's censure. Sheesh. What do you want me to do?"

But, I suppose he's a Senator and has to say it a little more nicely.

7. Good comments.
I agree with them. And Sen. Kerry has been on the floor of the Senate suggesting that the President doesn't know what he's doing and the war should start to wind down. Perhaps he needs a publicist.

Thanks!

8. Now that you mention it - that's what he said
Although he did ask for suggestions on how this type of information could more reasonably be spread, which is a good question. It's pathetic that with Censure being their number one issue, that the activists can't keep track of who's on board, even though I think it's a total of 4 people. They need to be more informed on their own issue. (Now if the Censure was Kerry's and the Iraq plan Feingold's, would censure just be grandstanding and stupid because it would be embarrassing if it came to a losing vote.)

I wonder if it's "Feingold, Feingold, Feingold) to replace "Dean,Dean,Dean").

12. She thought it was really well done.
But later she said there was "no way" John Kerry would be president, because he had his shot, and you don't get 2 chances in a row. Sigh, sigh, sigh. She still wants Hillary Clinton, because that will mean Bill will be in the WH. I tried to explain the constitutional problems with that (I mean, the spouse is NOT the POTUS), but to no avail.

Tomorrow night I'm going to show her the Dissent speech (it was important that I show her the Vietnam stuff first so that she'll really appreciate his recent speech).

Oh yeah -- when she saw those wonderful pictures at the end of the film, she did agree with me that he's a good Dad (those are the soft attributes I'm trying to get people to universally agree with). That, at least, was progress.

18. Nice summation of JK's post!
That's what I immediately saw, too, and I thought it was funny too!

But I think there was also a valid request there to figure out how to get the word out more effectively.

However as I noted in my own reply to that, "people only listen when they want to."

Edited on Thu May-11-06 09:42 PM by Island Blue
and she has been traded in for a newer model, but just picturing she at 5'nothing" and JK at 6'4" (minus the hair) joined at the hip is quite amusing.

14. Well, it could have been Sen. Mikulski from MD
It would be like the Hobbits and the Ents in the Lord of the Rings movie. (Sen. Mikulski is at least 4'5" or 4'6". She is tall for a hobbit.)
