5. Massachusetts is under a state of emergency due to flooding
My area is expecting 8-14 inches of rain total. (Ahm, that's a lot of water.) I have some minor water in the basement of my house, but we are keeping up on it with a wet/dry vac right now.

Teddy was fine. (The devil missed, this time.) Sigh! It's going to be a long night. The Merrimack River doesn't crest until tomorrow morning. (It was bad up in Maine too. But at least I got to see the unreal and awesome waves breaking against the rocks at the coast. You should have seen the white caps! Wow! Then the road floaded out and you couldn't go there anymore.)

6. Good luck with the water.
We were lucky enough :) to have yesterday as the day to pick up our daughter in Worcester. We were all thoroughly soaked taking her boxes of stuff to the mini-van. I can't believe you guys had another day of rain today - things looked pretty water logged Saturday.

The whitecaps sound awesome. Good luck staying dry!

7. Serious flood control going on here too.
How close are you to the river, and did you hear Mittens acting all take-charge-ish from the Framingham bunker this morning? x(

My husband was just about to sandbag the driveway this morning when it eased up. A few spurts now and then, but it's calmed down a lot here. The basement pumps are going nonstop, but as long as the electricity doesn't go out we're over the worst. I think.

9. We are just starting the worst of it
The water is too low for a sump pump, but it is getting too high for the wet/dry vac. We had all the water out then it started pouring again, so now we have 2 inches of water in the basement in 15 minutes. Sigh! It's going to be a long night. (No work tomorrow. We will be pumping water out.)

Mittens was in Massachusetts? How the hell did that happen?

Hey, stay safe and warm. This flood is no joke. That is one hellacious amount of water to get in a short period of time.

8. I'm fine where I live
Edited on Sun May-14-06 03:01 PM by rox63
But my Mom is just a few blocks from the Merrimack. Fortunately, the river banks have been built up pretty high in her area, so I don't think she's in any danger.

11. Glad to hear it.
I never understand flood talk anyway. What does it mean if a river is "8 feet above flood stage"? I always picture this wall of stationary water eight feet high.

12. I've been watching the Weather Channel all day
thinking about you guys. We're having major rain here today to and are now under a tornado watch, but nothing like what y'all are dealing with. We saw the damage floods can do in eastern NC during Hurricane Floyd several years ago. (I'm talking about places a hundred or so miles away from the coast. Creeks and rivers flooded - it was a mess.) Stay safe everyone and please keep us posted!
