New member at WeLoveJohnKerry and she has a gift for you all!
Democrafty and I would like to welcome our new posting member at WeLoveJohnKerry. Her name is DreamingofKerry (DK) and she has something to give you by way of introduction that we think you might all be happy to see (hint: it contains the words JK and Emerson, and it moves and speaks!)

This is a WLJK exclusive, as far as we know. Please visit and enjoy (and leave a comment, we'd love to hear what you think!):

luckily we were only 19 at the time or I would really feel old right now. You know I realized that we got married 1 week after JK did in '70.

8. I was confused about the login
but you don't need to login to post. Just write your post and then skip the login and scroll down and you will see a note that says fill in the letters you see. Then press preview and it will come up on your left and in that box which is yellow, press publish. It is previewed by the owners of the blog first and then they let it go through.

11. Thank you! This was great.

That was a fun graduation speech. So many of them are tedious as the speaker tries to impart 'wisdom' to the graduating seniors. The Senator snuck wisdom in sprinkled onto of a healthy teaspoon of sugar. I liked that.

You know I can tell when Sen. Kerry is giving a informal speech at home. He drops his 'g's at the end of words and says words like 'gonna' a lot more. I like that. There is a difference in speech between the informal part of the speech and the ending where all the words are clearly enunciated. I like that. And boy oh boy, you just can't beat those hometown crowds. (Okay, I was a little proud ot them here. So sue me.) Great idear for a speech. (Beat the crap out of the speech I saw McCain give at Liberty U. McCain is far less chahmin.)

Thank you and DC and DK! Long may you write and post!

14. He was definitely ambi-idearist in that speech.
He used both pronunciations of the word in the same sentence. I love it when he talks in this informal, conversational way. (Okay, I love it when he talks period.) I do love his wry sense of humor - I can really relate to that.

When I graduated from college, our graduation speaker was Mr. Rogers. He was great, but I'd rather visit Mr. Kerry's neighborhood any day!

15. OMG
Mr. Rogers was my son's speaker at ODU when he graduated in 2000. Many were not happy with the choice and there were stories in the paper about it. We didn't know what to expect from Mr. Rogers but he did end up being pretty good and everyone was pleased with his speech.

17. Mr. Rogers was a few years younger at my graduation.
:) Closer to his prime I guess you could say. I seem to remember we were okay with it. At least those of us from the J School didn't have any complaints. I remember the entire department stood up and sang "Won't You Be My Neighbor" to him. Thinking back on it, I'm sure THAT was original.

16. That is rather odd
I heard the following brief rryhme on tv yesterday:

lotta watah (Lot of water)

Don't worry about poor lost New England R's, however. In typical Yankee fashion, we re-use 'em - by sticking them on the ends of certain other words ending with "uh" sounds: "Ah final ahs just disappeah, but wheah they go we've no idear."

http://www.boston-online.com/wickedpr.html

I think the Senator has picked up a lot of poor little lost 'r's and given them a home. Tis nice of him in my book.

Thank you so much for posting that. It made me smile and laugh after a couple of very stressful days. I'm tempted to send it to a few people who insist that Kerry was stiff, wooden, and had no sense of humor.

21. What?!?
No comments and gushing over how gorgeous he looked? No fainting slats needed over those shots at the beginning, before the speech, when the camera focuses on his face, and he looks straight into it? I must be in the wrong forum :-)!

22. No, you are not in the wrong forum.
I just had to dial it down. I am low on smelling salts becuase of all 'the vapors' I was getting on that account.

Yum. That was a great appearance and the rapport with the Kids was great. I loved the part when the good Senator was just about to sit down and the speaker called him to the podium. Goofy smile, love from the kids.

What a great appearance. Most smiles per minute of just about any appearance I've ever seen. Ever.

23. Yep
The "what? I am not supposed to sit down?" moment was sweet. On the other hand, though the light hearted first part of the speech was a nice change, the part that I really enjoyed, the part where he was his real self, was the latter, where he turned serious. Great emphasis on words, "we need you DESPERATELY", "DISSENT". Heartwarming, and a beautiful man, inside & out.

The humor is there. I've seen it before and I always liked the Senator's sense of humor. (I have seen a lot of it.) I think he is, ahm, human. He shows all sides of one personality.

25. Deeper self?
Core self? Essential self? I am sure the humor is there, and the easy "goingness". I wish I had the chance to have experienced it first hand, as you did (is there a smiley for green with envy?)

26. It's kind of hard to explain in a way.
Sen. Kerry is capable of these 'moments' that have resonance. (For lack of a better term.) There is a core of seriousness and also a sense of areas that are personal and not for public consumption. (Well, there should be. I have real problems with the celebrity culture that demands that every famous person be an open book. That is disturbing and very, very shallow.) And yet, there are times when he says stuff that seems to come from that area that is not normally for public consumption and it can make for riveting moments. I saw it in Mass debates. (And, in all honesty, I'm not sure what to say about it. Some of this comes from an intensely personal place. It's almost a violation of trust to talk about it. Yet it came out in a public debate. It's oddly jarring and hard to discuss.)

I want the humor. It's an absolutely necessary thing to 'leaven' the discussion and supply the layers. That's a s close as I can get to explaining it.
