American Perspectives
They're showing a marathon of Commencement addresses. Anyone know if they will be airing Kerry's?

2. Thanks.
Amazing that they would show Robert Novak and Tommy Franks but not John Kerry.

I hate C-SPAN.

3. You're welcome
And welcome to DU and the JK Forum.

I love C-SPAN, but they certainly made some poor choices with the commencement speeches. Robert Novak? WTF is that?

I did see the Kenyon commencement ceremony live streamed. It was really a great speech. Hey, wonder if it's on their site?

6. What college would invite a person like Novak, who outed a CIA spy!
Why on earth would CSPAN cover him and not John Kerry?

Maybe they should put together commencement speeches by future 2008 candidates. (I loved to see the 3 McCain speeches with the 2 Kerry speeches in between. Kids at 2 of those 5 collegs loved their speaker. :) )

8. Holy shit, karyn. Read the description.
Thomas Moore College Commencement Address
Thomas More College of Liberal Arts
Merrimack, New Hampshire (United States)

Novak, Robert Columnist

Robert Novak delivered the commencement address to the graduating class of the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts. The journalist and columnist has covered politics since 1957 when he began as a congressional correspondent. He spoke to the graduates about ethical choices graduates will face as they begin their careers.

I wonder what his advice was. For or against?

12. Thomas Moore, the saint who refused to
Edited on Sun May-21-06 09:00 AM by karynnj
listen to the king he loved when that king asked him to do wrong? Ethical choices? If he came clean on every thing he did wrong and then told the kids that his bad decisions led to this painful public repudiation of much of his life - it might work.

(I assume the irony was lost on the school itself)

13. St Thomas More
was beheaded by Henry VIII. See "A Man for All Seasons".

Yes, lots of irony here.

10. Novak advice to grads "Don't trust Government"

Allen Smith, 16, installs a smoke detector in the modular home that will be shipped to a family in Larose, La., whose home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. (SON HOANG)

I love the caption error beneath Novak's photo. His time might have been better spent installing smoke detectors in mobile homes than lying to college grads.

5. I didn't get to see it this morning.
Damn. I was otherwise engaged. I hope that they will post the commencement ceremony soon, it sounds like it was great. (And very different from the commencement at Emerson. Well, they are different colleges. Denis Leary went to Emerson and he is vastly different from Paul Newman who went to Kenyon. Hmmmm.) I did love the Emerson commencement address. & :loveya:

It sounds like it was a warm and engaging speech to a receptive and appreciative crowd. I can't wait to see it.

7. It was wonderful.
It was smart and funny and personal. And very well received.
I was impressed at the research he did for this, meeting with Kenyon alumni in DC to prepare for the speech, and it paid off. The speech was about the grads and the school and the teachers, and, of course, the 2004 voting problems, with a hefty dose of advice thrown in. As it should be.

I give it a 9.

:-)

And with Teresa there, I think he had a really nice morning.
