Democratic voters better start taking ownership of their votes for Senators and Congresspersons. I know in some states Democrats vote for moderates or Republican converts (liberal blogs are touting candidates like Webb for 2006) because it takes the seat away from a Republican. Still, no one should pretend that a moderate candidate is going to reach the Senate or House and suddenly vote left of the moderate position on every vote.
My Senators split the vote on Hayden and voted together against Kavanaugh and for cloture on Kempthorne. How will the new crop of Senators that are the sweethearts of the liberal blogs vote?
11. See those new Democratic senators will be elected
than they'll disappoint the liberal blogs. I really don't expect Webb should he become Virginia's next senator to be in the liberal bloc of the senate and hell I even saw one of his supporters on a blog say they hope he stands up to Teddy Kennedy as much as he does the Republicans. Whatever that means  I must say I don't like how some Democratic senators vote but I reserve my toughest criticisms for my own senators and congressperson. I don't like that Pat Leahy voted for Hayden's confirmation but it's not the end of the world that he did.
The Senators can try to come to agreement, but in the end each one of them has to answer to his or her constituents. And answering doesn't mean pandering. If it's the right thing to do, they should be able to make their case (even if it's after the fact) and vote their conscience.
You have Democrats from old time manufacturing areas who are strongly opposed to these agreements but than you have some that vote for them because they do help farmers. I admit I am not always in agreement how Senator Kerry or in this case Senator Leahy votes but he's not my senator and I am not going to send a scathing letter or make a rude phone call because of a vote. People should be concerned with how their congressman and senators vote first and foremost. Reminds me of something my dad told me that you have to clean your own side of the room or somethin like that before you can get involved with others.
