for anyone who saw the entire clip you would see he was talking to an Indian AMerican guy who was discussing these issues and while Biden did make the comment about Indians and 7-11 and Dunkin Donuts, he also said a large number of CEOs in Silicon Valley were Indian Americans.
if you want to see what is really bigoted, check out the freeper comments on this and how they talk about how non Christian Indians do well because they are taught by Christian teachers or schools. all the while claiming Democrats are racist. never mind that most minorities make up the Democratic Party.
i saw more of the Biden appearance on CSPAN and he comes off a used car salesman type. the problem is that he never really listens to people. maybe it's because i'm so used to JK and how he spends time really listening to people and answering them rather than just spouting off some quick lines and moving on to the next person. Biden has that stupid phony smile plastered on his face the entire time. and it's almost like not only does he not really listen to others, but he doesn't listen to himself.
He frequently has the forced smile. I am generally biased in favor of people who are flawed in front of the camera. Biden's comment seemed well intentioned and benign.
I disagree with him on some issues like the Bankruptcy Bill but Biden was one of the few Democrats that passionately fought back against right-wing pundits backing up Kerry/Edwards in 2004. He took Chris Wallace apart on Fox News. Every time Wallace tried to make a sleazy insinuation about Kerry, Biden interrupted him and totally put him in his place(taking a page from the Fox game plan).
That last paragraph. It's a matter of character and personality, and will be a stumbling block. People know when they're being condescended to--they can pick up on that really fast. It takes more than being smart and on the right side of the right issues--it takes character, and it takes heart.
