No committee vote on Bolton until September
http://boltonwatch.tpmcafe.com/blog/boltonwatch/2006/jul/31/no_committee_vote_on_bolton_until_september

This is not unexpected, but the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today decided to delay until September a vote on whether to release John Bolton's nomination to the Senate floor for consideration.

Reuters has the details:

At the urging of Democrats, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has put off a vote until September on whether to keep John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, committee aides said on Monday.

Democrats want to use that time to press the White House for documents they had sought last year during the dispute over Bolton's nomination to be U.N. envoy. They contend he bullied intelligence analysts to conform to his hawkish views in his last job as top U.S. arms control negotiator.

The date of the September business meeting where this will be considered isn't clear to me.

If you are a Nebraskan or a Rhode Islander, this is a great time to contact Senator Hagel or Senator Chafee and tell either one how you feel about John Bolton.

1. Chafee's primary is September 12, 2006
How close to labor day are they likely to come back? I wonder if they want this immediately before the primary - when any anger would be strongest.

I hope lots of New Yorkers call, email Schumer (and Hillary just in case). Being a good ally to Israel is the NORM for American diplomats. I'm sure there is a person, who is a diplomat who is as good a friend, who could help the world, the US and Israel better than Bolton does.
