I had the nicest time tonight. I went to a Dem Bar-B-Que
in support of Democratic Victory '06 for Massachusetts. (Yeah!) I just talked with Democrats. People who hate George Bush and his evil minions with a passion as deep and great as I do. How friggin awesome is that. (I met a lady tonight who worked for John Kerry for years as, I think a Secretary or Admin Asst. I love talking to all these folks. It anchors me. "Oh yeah, so-and-so worked for the Senator for years. They live over here on such-and-such street. Nice people, love to garden, my kids went to school with their kids and so forth.")

It gets so odd sometimes posting on this group about Senator Kery, national figure. Then I go home and talk to folks who have known the good Senator for a long, long time. Then I remember, yeah, I'm not on DU right now, I'm home. There are people here who can tell me long stories about the convention in 1982 and will laugh about 'how that one was done. Great maneuvering. Here, so-and-so was there then, why don't you go talk to them.' There are people here, like Whome, who just worked their asses off for Kerry in a good many fights, who are still there, still part of 'Our Great Democrats' in the noble Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

I think I'm basking a bit. I talked to a woman tonight who told me that people from Mass went down to Connecticut by the droves to help out Ned Lamont. They made phone calls, took time off from work, etc. "No problem honey. That Lieberman, what the hell is he doing with Bush so much all the time anyway. What's with him? How come he supports this crappy war." There were a goodly number of 'Kerry people' who happily went to CT to do what they could for Ned Lamont. That was so nice to hear.

Great, great night. BTW, I found out we have some specific goals in mind this year: re-elect Ted Kennedy with the highest margin of victory of any Senator up for re-election and go get the rest of the seats not currently held by Democrats in the State House. (Dems currently hold 89% of all elected offices in the State, but not the Governor's office.) Oh yeah, and no matter what happens, we MUST have a Democratic Governor. There is no reason for Republicans to exist here at all, they are all vile. (Damn, that felt so good. We didn't attack Democrats, we attacked Them, cuz They are so evil.) It was a nice evening. I wonder if we could be a 100% Democratic State come Nov 8th?

1. Those cookouts are a splendid idea
It gets fellow Dems together in a relaxed atmosphere, and it raises funds for the upcoming battle. I like it! How good to hear that Kerry people were down in CT helping gotv for Lamont. And wouldn't it be awesome of Teddy did win his reelection with the highest margin of victory ever? What better show of support and pride for our senior senator than that?

2. Thanks for the recap, Tay
I actually like hearing the local stories to get an idea how local Dems "work", which sometimes sounds like it's a lot of fun!!

Only disappointment -- no Kerry stories from the old Kerry staffers? Or is everyone being tight lipped (understandably so)?
