John Paul II was special in another way to me as an non Italian Catholic

He gave us hope that one day, we non Italian Catholics could have one of our own as pope. I know it doesnt really matter but I thought the fact that he was the first non italian pope in years made him stand out, and now we could have the first non white pope too.

always meant a lot in my family when I was growing up.

Especially during the age of communism and solidarity.

He stood up for the good fight, and I'm glad he did.
