Mary Did you Know?
That your baby boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
would save our sons and daughters?

Did you know that your baby boy
has come to make you new;
the child that you delivered
will soon deliver you?

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
will calm the storm with His hand?

Did you know that your baby boy
has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby,
you kiss the face of God!
Oh Mary did you know?

Oh Mary did you know?
The blind will see, the deaf will hear
the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak
the presence of the lamb.

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
will one day rule the nations?

Did you know that your baby boy
is Heaven's perfect lamb?
The sleeping child you're holding
is the great I am!

Mary did you know?

1. Lovely, really lovely. You know, the first time I went to

Italy and saw great Renaissance paintings outside books, I was amazed at how Mary is often portrayed in Annunciations. Her face often looks like she's thinking "You're telling me WHAT? The Son of GOD? Please don't say this!" She looks like she can't believe it and like she's frightened, often, instead of the placid look we see on Christmas card Marys. Much more true to life for a very young, unmarried woman, I think, to have doubts and fears.

Another wonderful thing that's not clear in book photos is that in Annunciations, Gabriel's words are painted in gold leaf coming from his mouth in a ribbon-like stream: "Ave Maria, gratia plenum, Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus."

"Mary, did you know?"

Thanks, pres2032! :hi:

2. my favorite Annunciation painting (very chilling)

I didn't write that poem, it's a somewhat well known song. An excellent version is a duet by Kenny Rogers and Wynnona Judd.

3. I like it -- Mary has that look I'd expect anyone to have

when hearing such momentous and startling news. Who's the artist?

I think I have heard the song once or twice but didn't know where or who did it.
