Has anyone attended a Chrism Mass?

All the priest from the diosese attend and renew their vows to the Bishop. They then bless the oil used for baptisms, confirmation, and annointing of the sick.

we just look at all the photos in the archdiocesan newspaper. I take it you have attended before, so are you going on Thursday?

Once, when I was serving as Eucharistic minister, I was standing off to the side of the altar waiting for our priest to be ready for me to assist. It was a Sunday when he was going to anoint all the sick and elderly who stayed after Mass to receive that sacrament so there was a container with chrism on the little table where the altar boys keep the wine and water cruets, little towels for the Lavabo, etc. I noticed the chrism was there but didn't pay much attention.

Then the altar boy standing next to me whispered, "Look, it's Holy Kryptonite!"

Sure enough, the chrism was pale green. . . I have never noticed that it was green when I've received the Anointing of the Sick so I don't know if that's standard or not. Maybe that batch was made from especially high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

After years of teaching, I can usually keep a straight face when teenagers make smart-ass remarks but it required a little effort that day!

I took my CCD class that is making their confirmation to it.

I was surprised that they used olive oil for this. I guess I never gave it a thought before.
