"Amnesty's announcement that abortion in cases of rape – a crime too frequent in parts of the world where Amnesty has taken an interest – is a human right came less than two months after release of "Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur." Contributing musicians include U2, Green Day, Aguilera, Lavigne and others performing covers of John Lennon tunes."

Rick Whittington is one of the others and he is involved with Rock for Life, a pro-life group, and protesting that he and others were duped by Amnesty. Christina Aguilera and Avrel Lavigne have made statements against abortion. I don't think Amnesty was unaware of those performers' views. Less than two months after the record was released, Amnesty started supporting abortion.

Amnesty announced two weeks ago that they supported abortion in cases of rape. Just rape cases. Now see what they said only a week later:

"Amnesty, this week, issued a response to Bertone, saying the organization 'stands by its policy ... to support the decriminalization of abortion, to ensure women have access to health care when complications arise from abortion and to defend women's access to abortion – within reasonable gestational limits – when their health or life are in danger.' "

Bertone, of course, is Cardinal Bertone and here is his statement that Amnesty was replying to:

"Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, second only to Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican hierarchy, condemned the new policy, saying, 'Men and women of the church have already made their stark opposition to this decision clear. Violence cannot be answered by further violence, murder with murder, for even if the child is unborn it is still a human person. It has a right to dignity as a human being.' "

In other words, Amnesty now supports abortion on demand. As we have seen since Roe v. Wade, any sort of reason can qualify as "endangering" a woman's health. Like being pregnant itself. There is a small "health risk" involved in any pregnancy, though it's very small in almost all cases. But by such vague standards one could conclude that all babies should be aborted.

Sadly, supporting abortion at any time for any reason is not considered radical today.

However, this being the Catholic and Orthodox Forum and the Catholic position being to oppose abortion, I thought that Catholics who support the Church's position should know about Amnesty's new support fo abortion.

I'm well aware that the article was from "worldnutdaily"; I found the link on a Catholic forum and used the article from that source rather than look for it at another news site. If you have evidence that it's misleading in any way, let me know.

This is certainly the right forum and I'm not debating abortion with you. I just think you're OP goes a little far. Do you really expect AI to kowtow to Church doctrine when they're not an arm of the Church?
