Anyone have experience with Abilify?

Some of you may remember that my daughter has recently been diagnosed with pediatric bipolar disorder. Unfortunately, she developed an allergic rash to both seroquel and risperdal and now her psychiatrist wants to put her on Abilify. I have read some pretty awful stories about this drug and am hoping that there are an equal number of people that like this drug, but may be less vocal.

If anyone has any experience with this, I would love to hear you story. Thanks!

your daughter is; however, when my doc put me on it, my anxiety attacks worsened. i lasted 3 weeks then took myself off of it, it was horrible. That is just my experience, others may have more positive ones.

i have hope for one of the things in the health care reform that is not talked about- looking at those electronic records, and seeing what works and what doesn't. i am pretty sure that when they do that, they will see patterns in what helps which people at what dose and what works when which fails. i am kinda convinced that there will be some guidance in that data.

in the meantime, this is what it takes. trial and error. maybe the hardest part of that is how long the whole process can take with drugs that don't reach peak effects for months. the thing i hated with my kiddo's docs was that they would crank it up a few times before they discarded it, which can be a real problem.

good luck. all you can do it keep trying, watch closely and hope that you have a doc that trusts YOU.

We have decided that her "allergic" rash was not due to the risperdal and are going to keep her on that for now. My daughter is 10 years old. The problem with a lot of these drugs is that they have never been tested long term in pediatric patients.

I am really new to this. Helping her through her problems is proving to be so much more difficult than dealing with my own.
