It's pretty cool to have a mental health professional posting here. I thought that the advice you gave in the other thread was pretty good. Especially the part about the patient being in charge. If I would have known that I had more choices a while back it would have saved me a lot of time and heartache. Now when I talk to people about getting treatment for mental illness I am always sure to tell them to know their rights as a patient and that there are usually many different drugs out there that are available to treat their condition, so don't think your stuck with what the doctor tries first.

What are your credentials? I am a licensed clinical social worker - work in a psych hospital - both inpatient and outpatient. What setting do you work in?
