Any of you have PTSD?
I'm simply asking because my counselor I've been seeing for about a month suggested that I have symptoms and behaviour associated with PTSD.

I was bullyed at my last job, and then I was hit by a car about two weeks after words. This set up a cascade of mental health issues that I'm dealing with 9 months later.

My doctor suggested a book called "Healing Trauma" by Peter Levine. Any other suggestions?

BTW, if you want to read about my diagnosis, I just posted about it on my blog:

http://thedanarchist.blogspot.com/2011/05/ptsd-why-im-probably-more-fucked-up.html

I also have specific stories about what I went through at my job and afterwards if anyone is interested.

Thank you.

1. My counselor has brought it up but I don't like to think of myself that way.
When I think of PTSD I think of soldiers coming home from war, not what I went through growing up. Part of me knows that he's probably right, but I feel guilty taking on that label when so many others have gone through so much worse than I have. So I tend to push back when he brings it up.

2. I think you should seriously have a look.
Like anything organic, PTSD has a spectrum in both the causes and effects. Minor trauma adds up, and minor trauma can have minor effects on behaviour and personality. I'll tell you right now...neither of us has it as bad as a soldier or a rape victim. That doesn't mean we can't have a minor form of what they have.

You owe it to yourself to look into it.

3. Thanks, Evoman.
Next time he brings it up I'll actually discuss it a bit. I worry that it will open a can of worms I've been keeping closed for a long time though.
