aaarrrgghh!!
Edited on Tue May-24-05 06:49 PM by mopinko
it was so hard to convince my husband to see someone. it took him so much courage to do this.
so he has his first appointment tonight. he tries to follow the goofy directions- up the back stairs, there's no waiting room, so don't come in till your time, it's a residential building. he gets there, he doesn't see where he is supposed to go. he calls from his cell phone. it is his appointed time. first it is busy for 5 minutes, then he gets voicemail. he calls the emergency number on the voicemail. more voicemail. it is 25 minutes into his appointed time, and he is standing in a backyard wondering what is going on. jesus h christ.
all that working up his nerve, and he gets this!?! this is what drives me crazy. so many shrinks are nuts. fuck fuck fuck
i'm sitting here trying to talk myself out of leaving a long rant on her voicemail. omg is all i can say.

edited to say, she finally got the message, called him back. she says- i turned the ringer off, because it was your hour! he is re-scheduled for next week. jeez!

2. Well I'm glad the doctor was willing to reschedule so soon
Edited on Wed May-25-05 12:20 AM by Droopy
If I miss an appointment with my psychiatrist it could be months before he is able to reschedule me.

Best wishes for you and your husband. It does take a lot of guts to see a professional for the first time. It makes you feel very vulnerable.

3. that's terrible
we have had a hard time getting a first appointment sometimes, pdocs, and other specialists, but there isn't usually a problem after that. one more reason i am glad i live in a big city.

it's kinda funny, well, no not really, i was not nervous myself. i was not feeling bad about myself so much, mostly about the relationship. but in the past, when i was having troubles, the thought of seeing someone was really frightening. too frightening, in fact, to do it. most unfortunate that the more you have to gain, the more you have to loose. but there are so many bad ones out there. it is scary.

4. I am with you on that - that there are definite advantages to city living

as far as access to health services goes - with more choices.

All the best - hope it goes smoothly from here on.

If she turns out to be a dud - shop around!

5. i am surprised
that he picked this therapist. i took pains when i was getting recommendations to get some men. but he picked this woman, and his second choice was another woman. i hope that this is a good sign.
things are better already just moving beyond finger pointing and helplessness, and on to positive action.
