Bullshit Pepsi Ad
Some of you may have seen this already. To you, I apologize.

Last night fellow DUer shugah linked to a story about a Pepsi ad campaign that makes light of suicide. The link to that thread is as follows: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4653208&mesg_id=4653208

I was completely disgusted and outraged by this callous marketing campaign. I wrote the company to inform them I would not consume any PepsiCo products until they issue a sincere apology to all those who have been affected by suicide. If you would like to do likewise, their online form is here: http://cr.pepsi.com/usen/pepsiusen.cfm?or=

1. Apparently, they stopped those ads.

I don't want to seem like I doubted you or shugah. I had to google the ads in question. I simply couldn't believe a company could be so incredibly heartless. We all know of people who have committed suicide. I had an uncle who committed suicide. I've contemplated suicide in the past.

This is quite possibly the worst ad campaign I've ever seen. Suicide should not be used to shill a product. This is beyond the pale.

4. all companies are heartless
To some degree. The marketers have run out of shocking things to capture attention with. They have used sex, child abuse, violence, mind bending surrealism, death,sickness..And even worse to sell their shit.Suicide was one of the last few shockers left untouched.Sad marketers in their rush to get our attention to sell, they also desensitize people isn't it?

I saw a gas station advertising coffee as a "shock treatment" I went in there and tore the store manager who thought it was so damn funny a new asshole. The sign was down that day.Two months later they went out of business.Haha.

5. Surprising and disturbing
and I'm surprised that I'm surprised by it. Just one more corporate evil to pile in with the others. Yes, I saw the ads. Know a man down the road who's son committed suicide a few months ago - knew an old lady in town that did a few years back. A good friend of mine committed suicide... it's all too damn common and sad.

What a bunch of fucking pricks. I used to drink pepsi, switched to coke a year or so ago. Good for me... not going back, and if I see the same shit from coke, I'll stop buying their products as well.
