They don't make me happy, they just make me normal. I heard someone quoted as using this term, and I suspect he wasn't referring to anti-depressants.

1. I don't, because they aren't. But I've heard people use the term jokingly many times.
Personally, they don't even make me normal, they make me worse. I'll never take another one again.

3. I love the analogy of diabetes and insulin. If you need insulin, trying to
tough it out without it means you have problems. If you expect the insulin to allow you to eat all the sugar you want, you're also going to have problems.

Expecting medication to take care of all your problems is foolish. For some people (most people?), trying to fight depression with therapy alone is equally foolish. Your life will change for the better only if you take advantage of what the medication allows you to do.

For example, if your depression gave you insomnia, no pill in the world will get you back on track if you continue to watch the late, late, late show every night.

4. The ones I've heard say it took them, so I give them a pass.
It's mostly tongue in cheek from them. But the type of people you speak of, the ones who say it as a put down or in the assumption that anyone taking it is magically happy are indeed annoying as Hell. x(

6. I usually call them crazy pills
Not because they make me crazy but because they make me less crazy.
