Trying to get a list of books like A People's History of the United States together for Demopedia. If you've been curious about Demopedia this might be just the excuse you need to jump on in and add some new stuff.

From the category People's History|People's History it is defined as:

History told from the perspective of 'ordinary' people or those groups who have traditionally been missing; the poor, the oppressed, the conquered.

It would be preferable if you would sign up for Demopedia and add it, but if you would really rather not, or you do add it and can't figure out how to 'file' it in a category then you can list it here and someone else will add it.

The list so far is pretty small:

A People's History of the United States
Voices of A People's History of the United States
A People's History of the American Revolution
Nickel and Dimed
Assassination of Julius Caesar

I'll be cross posting this to the other history group.

3. There are so many, some on Brazilian Slavery
Today, the overwhelming majority of historians work on social or cultural history. I can provide lists in a number of categories, but they will be monographs rather than textbooks. I'll list some here and you can decide if you want to add them to your index on the other page. I've noted a few titles below but can provide you much more extensive listings in the History of Brazil, US Slavery, Labor, and Immigration History, and Latin American History and politics. For Brazil, most of the best works are in Portuguese. If you think anyone might be interested in Portuguese language readings, please let me know.

Slavery and the State in Nineteenth-Century Brazil

4. Question?
Should I just add the books onto the linked page without having them cleared first? What I can contribute are lists of academic monographs in Latin American and US history. Some will be fairly readable while others are directed toward a narrow academic audience.
Let me know what you think is appropriate for your project.

The Story Of Stupidity by James F. Welles. The whole book is available online:

Some others, as long as I'm here:

One-Night Stands With American History by Richard Shenkman and Kurt Reiger. Example: "With the coming of the Depression, the Republican slogan of 1928, 'A chicken in every pot and two cars in every garage,' seemed a hideously bad joke--especially to the reporter who had coined the phrase. By 1933 the author of the slogan was out of work and driven to begging to keep his wife and children from starving."

Weird History 101 by John Richard Stephens.

Eyewitness To History, Edited by John Carey.
