Wild theory time about Heirs
Voldemort is the Heir of Slytherin.

Hebzipah (sp) Smith had Hufflepuff's cup that had been passed down through her family. So is Zacharias the Heir of Hufflepuff?

Is Harry the Heir of Gryffindor?

Who's the Heir of Ravenclaw? The only Ravenclaws we know are Cho, Marietta, Padma, and Loony.

2. Read the JKR interview. She clearly states Harry not heir of anything
Which makes me happy, because the whole point of the story was that he is a regular person thrust in extraordinary circumstances and prevailing because of good choices/friends rather than blood priviledges.

5. I believe that Dumbledore might have been the heir
of Gryffindor. . .

Of Ravenclaw, believe it or not, my bet is squarely on Luna Lovegood.
She goes off in flights of fancy, but she always speaks the truth and sees matters as they truly are.

Remember in Order of the Phoenix how Luna constantly complained that people were always taking her things? What people? Why? Could it have been that even then someone, somewhere was looking to confiscate
some sort of reilc from Luna's family?

Makes you go "hmmmmm?!?"

After all Sherlock Holmes said "When you dismiss the impossible, whatever you have left, however improbable, is the answer."

6. Maybe it's Neville
He is brave, even though he isn't particularly good at magic.

8. "...looking to confiscate some sort of relic from Luna's family?" Good catch! I hadn't
thought of that angle.

It's canon.
