Yay! Harry Potter movie!!!

Anyone else go? What did y'all think?

see it last night (I wouldn't have got home until 2:45 am!)
Just a few scatterd people in the early show--though the ticket gal said the afternoon and eve. shows were already sold out.

Re: the movie--MUCH better than the others, just because there wasn't the usual breakneck pace. Having this one in two sections means the director can relax a bit. Which is NOT to say it's slow, not at all. Just more detail and character development--what we fans have longed for in the movies all along.

The part of the book that infamously dragged--the eternal camping trip-- was reduced greatly, which was a good decision.

The three principles are all young adults now, and their acting is the best yet for the HP films.

I loved booing Umbitch, I mean Umbridge, again.

The early scenes of Malfoy Manor, with Charity suspended over the table--really sets the theme for the danger and seriousness of this segment of the Potter saga.

The Ministry of Magic scenes were well done, and I loved seeing a bit more of the Ministry--other floors and offices. (Umbridge does herself proud with that office--all that gilding--and all those damn cat plates)

David Thewlis looks much more like the tired, care-worn Remus is said to look in the books.

The scene where Hermione obliviates her parents' memories, with tears in her eyes. And the eerie-ness of her disappearing from the family photos...

And what a wealth of English scenery we got!

I loved seeing the Lovegood home, and Rhys Ifans was a great Xenophilius.

Hermione and Harry dancing in the tent--so sweet.

Stuff I missed:
Phineas Nigellus being in Hermione's amazing purse.
The utter golden-ness of Fleur and Bill's wedding--the band, the golden dance floor.
Dudley's goodbye to Harry. The Dursleys were barely glimpsed.

In the book, the "shadow" Harry and Hermione that come out of the locket are described as having red eyes. That would have been a nifty touch.

Over all I loved it, and when the first week of showings gets less crowded will return for another viewing (or two, or three).

I may break down and go see this. I've been terribly disappointed in all the movies so far, for a variety of reasons.

I'll do my usual and wait a few weeks, then catch a Sunday morning showing.

Ronald Weasley's character is just so loveable!!

I thought it was excellent. (But thought the camping scene STILL "drug a bit". . . )

It was the fastest damn 2-1/2 hours I ever spent. I couldn't believe that much time had passed!

I thought they were supposed to drag. It was a literary device.

If it hadn't been dragged out and boring, we wouldn't have understood and sympathized when Ron bailed on the whole enterprise.

That's my take, at least. YMMV.

scenes didn't drag in the movie, there are apparently some viewers who disagree. I thought the amount of camping shown in the movie was just right to convey the exile and confusion of the characters. The Potter movies aren't, in my opinion, supposed to be action flicks. Yet I've seen griping (on other sites) about "nothing happens in the camping scenes!" Not true, much character development.

I took my grandson. It must have been good; I couldn't believe how quickly the time went, lol. I agree with some others that the camping scenes were just right; it improved the story to have them move a little more quickly. I, too, wished that Dudley's goodbye had been included. All in all, I thought it was just right.

Possibly the best since "Prisoner of Azkaban."
