Could anybody recommend a good compact tripod for a digital camera?
I don't want to spend a lot of money but I'm willing to pay extra to get something that folds up nice and small when not in use.

Any model, brand or store reccomendations would be useful, I don't even know where to start looking.

Thanks,
LM

1. How large of a digital camera?
The size and weight of the camera can be a determining factor, since some tripods are sturdier than others.

2. I have a Nikon Coolpix 3100
It weighs 5.3 ozs and it's 3.5" x 1.5" x 2.6". I've had it a few years now but it still does everything I need it to do. :D

3. Nothing wrong with that at all. You wanting a table-top tripod or
a full height one?

5. Let me poke around and see what I can find.
With a camera that's that light, anything made with halfway decent materials will work great. I'd stear clear of the super-low priced stuff at Best Buy, Target and the like.

For a little table top model I had specific recommendations, but I'm not familiar with full height ones for smaller cameras like that (I'm more into the sturdier/holding heavier weight models and am very familiar with a lot of those).

Velbon makes some very good low end products. Slik also makes some nice ones for very low prices. Considering the weight of the camera, you don't need anything super heavy-duty or fancy.

Here's one that would probably work for you, folds up very small and gives you pretty decent height. For a 3.5 oz. camera, it would probably be great. I wouldn't trust my SLR to it, but a compact digi would fit it well :)

8. A backpackers tripod
At REI long ago, I picked up a wee tripod. Used it for my point & shoot film camera. It works with my Panasonic FZ5. It even has a velcro strap for trees or sign posts. I strap the camera on my bike handle bars when I need height. Today, in movie mode, I filmed a bike ride. A bit shakey, though.
