Can anyone recommend a good book for learning Photoshop?
I have Photoshop CS and bought a book called "Learn Photoshop in 24 hours" but I don't find it very helpful. All suggestions welcome, I am on a windoze machine - and a total, complete novice with PS. I'm computer literate but really need something on the idiot level for learning this complex program. Got it for free and would love to learn how to do funny things with pics of the * admin figures. Thank you!

1. is it cs2?
It's probably too new for the books to be out on it.

I checked to see if Kate Binder had anything out in the Easy series but it doesn't look like it.

In the meantime, why not check the Photoshop blogs on a routine basis. You'll probably hear about something there. Here's an index page to them:

2. A good book is Photoshop CS2 Workflow
By Tim Grey. It shows you how to edit a photo from RAW without a lot of extra bullshit.

I also recommend Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Photographers by Martin Evening, because that is a lot more in-depth.

5. I have Adobe Photoshop CS for Photographers
by Martin Evening.

I didn't teach myself out of it when I was a beginner, so I can't really judge how useful it is for that, but I do think it's a great reference. I keep it on the shelf over my desk.

3. There are books?
:dunce:

I have a "free trial" ;) version of PS6 but don't really use it. I've gotten comfortable with PaintShop Pro and I've recently bought a RAW processor that I'm really diggin'....

There are a few that hang here that are Photoshop Wizards. Have a question? Just ask. There is a link I posted on alfredo's thread that has tutorials on PS. Might want to check it out.

4. You might want to search for online guides
I don't use PS, so I can't recommend anything, but you can find a good range of tutorials and discussion forums online -- too many of which are a bit too technical to be of immediate use. I found the Norman Koren site useful for a general background, but then I find the techy stuff as entrancing as it is puzzling, but I'm sure there are intros specific to Photoshop and intended for first time users. Maybe someone else has specific recommendations.
