Comtemplating Joining - How's this snapshot I took last week?
I took this with my Christmas gift: A Kodak CX7330 3.1MP toy. I like it. (Both the camera and the snapshot.) The posted pic is resized half (linear) size.

Critique. Please

1. Nice!
Welcome, TahitiNut.

I like the bright red fire hydrant surrounded by gloom. Nice composition.

I'm convinced digital cameras take better photographs than film. I think digitals have better latitude than film does. Or maybe digital pictures look better because we usually view them backlighted on a monitor.

2. Thanks. I'm thinking of calling it "Schindler's Street"
 (That's a cinematography pun.)

The hydrant was freshly painted just a couple of months ago. With the snow falling and the flat light, it was just close enough for the chroma to come through at saturation levels.

I scuba dive and do (very amateur) video and am conscious of the colors that disappear (get filtered out) at various depths. It seems there's a similar effect when the snow or rain is falling or when there's a fog. I don't know why I noticed it when I stuck my warmth-addicted head out the front door that morning, but I had to go get my new toy and see what happened.

I must admit to a small "cheat" - I cropped the photo in getting it ready to post. (Stupidly, I had the date stamp set to "on". I hate that.) In the wider/bigger photo, the house just barely shows on the right and the looming blue spruce looms even more on the left. So, the remoteness of the water (in the hydrant) comes through in that. I'm steadfastly of the opinion that water should always be liquid and we humans don't belong where it's not. (I dislike high humidity nearly as much as snow and ice.)

3. You mean you're not already a member here?
I could have sworn I've seen you in here before!

I like this picture, though oddly enough, not for the hydrant. I like the bush in the lower right corner because it's so clear against the muted backdrop.

Please stay and join! Themore the merrier in PhotoLand! :hi:

9. Funny you should mention that.
I look at several things in photos. (My hero is Ansel Adams.) I like perspective and depth, form and geometry, tint and tone, and texture. What I noticed only after I shot this was the three predominant tree textures, from the blue spruce to the tree to the bush. Maybe it's just my simplistic/amateurish way of looking at these things, but I like how they form a medley in the shot. It's a trite and hackneyed subject but that's probably because we all see something that resonates - so we keep trying.

4. Nice shot and please join the group
I like the idea of the red fire hydrant surrounded by white, but I'm thinking that perhaps you could gotten closer to it and have it in the foreground and have everything in the background pure white.
That way we could have seen the fire hydrant's fine details and strong colors more vividly.
I like how it is currently framed between the tree and the bush, but the yellow house and the cars in the background tend to be a little distracting.
Maybe if you would have gotten lower from the same spot you could have removed the cars or yellow house in the background.
Just my two cents, which is worth less than that.

5. (hmmm...) I get the strange but distinct impression you'd like this one..

I took this during an all-expense paid tour of Southeast Asia back in 1969. (This is a scan from a slide, so the resolution is actually quite a bit better on the slide.)

7. I rather liked the transition between heaven and hell.
The skies over 'Nam were awesome, absolutely awesome. Then, of course, there was the stuff on the ground. :scared:

8. I didn't see it that way at first, but you're right
The contrast between heaven and hell and the ambulance (I'm not sure what it's called in the military) connecting the two, transporting some to heaven, keeping others in hell.
