Pink and blue
The sunset tonight was absolutely gorgeous and I took a BUNCH of pictures, but here are two of my favorites.

Sunset sky reflected in an incredibly calm Cook Inlet

Yet another shot of my hometown -- I really like this one. It's not very often that the water is this calm - and it's REALLY nice to see the ice leaving

1. Wow, that second one looks like a calendar photo!
I really do have to get up there to see you again one of these days, Blue. Never mind the other scenery--only a truly beautiful person like you are could make some place as cold as Alaska look this inviting! :hi:

2. Great job of catching those rare light & air colors!
WYG, Blue! For those who haven't been to AK, it's difficult to even imagine how the light and air colors interact there.

Hope you get some photos this summer, too, when the sun does it's golden dip at night! Always loved those rare moments of seeing the golden sky blazing and blasting behind the mountains.

4. The evenings here in the summer are incredible...
It's like late afternoon sun for hours and hours. We've gone over the hump here now -- we presently have 12-1/2 hours of daylight and are gaining about 6 minutes a day. I love this time of year, even though there's still snow and it hasn't warmed up much yet. Just the additional light makes all the difference in the world.

3. Stunning pics.....
...(again)

I always read your posts and view your pics.
I sometimes don't reply because it just feels redundant.
The shots you post are always breathtaking, and I'm out of adjectives.

5. Thank you, Bvar22
That means a lot to me. Sometimes I'm afraid I might be boring people to death with all the landscapes, but this place just cries out to be photographed. I couldn't believe all the people that were out last night with their tripods and big lenses as well as their little point-and-shoots. The Pt. Woronzof was like a people magnet.

6. You could never bore people
with your pics of AK. They are all gorgeous and yes we run out of words for them. Besides you have had all of us waiting for the weather etc to get right all winter now so you could be turned loose with that new camera. :)

summer but for yours and your pics of it. You winter pics have been great though so can't complain here.

9. Pretty!
Very pretty mamasita! (Yes, this is your daughter I told you I would donate so I could make comments!) I think I may have to get you to blow that second one up so I can have (another) taste of home in my apartment.

10. Well, hello there, Blue_in_CA
May I introduce you to the group? Everybody, this is my lovely daughter, the lawyer :), who I've been bugging to sign up for all these lurking months. I guess you'll have to go out now and buy that Rebel you've been coveting so you can join us.

11. Hello Everyone!
Thanks mom! I may be a lawyer but that Rebel still may be a bit out of my price range. I hope to be posting lots of Los Angeles pics soon. But I am quite sure they won't compare to the Alaskan landscapes

15. Welcome to DU, and the photogroup.
Now get a camera and start posting pics. :) CA has its own special beauty and if you are anything like mom you will be a great addition to both DU and the photo group. So what pic did she blow up and print for you? I remember her frustration that the first choice was too small to blow up.

16. It was this one
and it turned out great. I had them put a double mat, mostly white, with a cool gray on the inside, and a narrow aluminum frame.

17. That is a great one and beautiful.
The matting sounds perfect for it too. Its fun to see a pic you took enlarged and framed too. Speaking of which, windows have been ordered and should be here this week. So starts the major renovations. Then I ger your pic printed big, it is much safer on a cd and the hard drive for now. Not sure how long it will take to get my nook drywalled etc, since we are doing more than one room but I haven't forgotten that you would like to see a pic of the pic.

18. Welcome, Baby Blue!
:hi:

So happy to see your mother raised you well enough to know the cool places to hang out online. You are aware that your mother is much beloved in this group? And that she's wicked cool and talented (which would make her my rival in a Hollywood movie, but which makes her my hero in real life).

Welcome again!

19. Thanks!
Thanks everyone - I'll have you know that my mom is much loved everywhere - not just on this group! :-) But it is amazing to see these pictures, especially given the fact that she really only started taking pictures very recently!

I'm thinking of getting a camera slightly better than the tiny point and shoot that I have. Any suggestions for a reasonable, fairly easy to use camera for a newbie?
