Photos from the antiwar protest in NYC

The first guy I saw as I stepped off the subway into Union Square, but not the last person I would see holding up a sign in support of immigration rights.

Jesse Jackson, Cindy Sheehan and Al Sharpton at the beginning of the march.

Keeping photographers at bay.

NYPD did an excellent job. They have a great sense of humor.

The National Organization of Women were awesome. They had their chants down and they had rhythm. And they were hot. Something about liberal women drives me crazy.

And Code Pink was just as hot.

As I said, liberal women are hot.

These guys were amazing. They were playing "When the Saints Come Marching In" and they had me dancing as I was taking photos. I'm not even sure if they were playing it to remind us of New Orleans and Katrina, but I took it that way. Photos don't do these guys justice. There needs to be some audio.

No, this is not a misplaced picture from the immigration rally. This was taken in the antiwar rally.

Why beat around the Bush?

I couldn't resist photographing this couple. This is actually one of my favorite shots of the bunch. Such an impromptu moment.

Remember this guy. You will see him marching in my upcoming immigration rally thread. The lines between the antiwar movement and the immigration activists are disappearing. Slowly but surely.

1. Wow, that's an amazing group of shots
Loved the big head guys in jailbird suits. Great!

And I liked the drummers, with the blurred arms. Very nice.

And of course I liked the girl with the nipples.

Ah. I see. "She has 'those.' I like 'those' on a woman."

It also warms my heart to see that courageous young man give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to that young waif, obviously saving her life.

2. Great use of perspective and bckground.
The subjects, of course, are key to telling the story, and your selection makes it clear that these people are us, not "them." Unlike the corporatist media. But gettting pics where the background is not just noise, but instead frames the people you show and makes them stand out as individuals makes these photos "art" or portraiture rather than just snapshots. Very good work, and thank you.

11. Great photos but then I have gotten to where
I count on you supplying us with great photojournalism. :) I also look forward to your commentary, including in GD. Maybe you can send you thoughts on the difference to Huffington Post or somewhere besides just GD. They are very well thought out, valid and need to be out there. For those that haven't seen it http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1122869
The other thing I noticed in DC and looks like it was in NY to was that instead of one message (No Bush War)many groups come with different messages that would be for lack of a better way of putting it, off topic. Though their concerns are just as valid more people might pay attention if it stuck to one message. Those that are unaware, misinformed, or plain old lazy seem to only be willing to focus on one thing and turn away when something else comes along. Then the right uses the variety against us. Unfortunately I have begun to believe we really are a nation of lazy, self-centered people that just don't care unless it affects them personally. Not everyone, why DU and other sites are so needed not only for information but sanity for those of us that really care.

13. Great shots, Raging
There's so much I missed from where we were. We really didn't see any of the street theatre like we did in DC. Now I see it was there, but not near us.
