How do I find/ create a code for the
pictures I would like to post here on DU ?

BIG POINT- I have a Mac. OS 10.4.0

Macs speak another language.

Thanking you in advance-

Kajsa:)

PS- The photos are digital and already
in iPhotos.

1. Hi Kajsa
Since I speak both Mac & Wintel, I'll offer this advice. Essentially, all you need to do is place a link to the absolute URL of the photo in your post. I'm afraid I'm ignorant about iPhotos specifically, but I'm assuming each photo is assigned a unique URL (as on photobucket, smugmug, etc). If I'm mistaken on this point, my apologies.

Once you have the link inserted into the body of your post, hit preview and you should see the photo.

Having said that, I should mention I don't use my Mac for the web, but I can't see why this wouldn't work. There are far smarter people than me on this forum, so they may have better advice. But no-one else seems to be around much tonight!

Good luck! Let us know how this turns out.:hi:

2. Direct linking as JeffR said is the way to do this. However,
some photo gallery sites do not allow access except for registered users. I have no idea if iPhotos is one of those restricted sites. Essentially, you just enter the address for the photo, (http://www.iphotos/(whatever).jpg or .jpeg) and it magically appears. (Just be sure the beginning and the end of the address are surrounded by spaces, unlike what I typed in that example.)

If this doesn't work for iPhotos, you will need to upload your photos to another site. There are several free sites available. The most popular seems to be photobucket. I use xs.to , but I always prefer to stay a bit out of the mainstream. The former has many extras, while xs.to is just a simple storage site.

3. Pbase and Flickr are other big photo sharing sites
I use a Mac also. You just upload your photos to the photo sites, then copy the URL for that photo into the DU message. There's nothing Mac-specific about it.

And be sure to resize your photos for web viewing before uploading. Don't want to upload the full-rez version, usually.

4. Hi Kajsa, I have a program called Photoshop Elements where I can resize
any photos I want to post online. for example if it's 1280 by 960 pixels I cut it in half to 640 by 480. The smaller size fits better on a website like DU. Then you could register at a free photo hosting website like www.photobucket.com and then upload your images. once your images are uploaded you will see 3 tags below the photo you've uploaded, copy the box beside the url tag like this-

I see what you mean about sizing! :o

I'm working on it!

Thanks, everyone!:D

PS- The lighting was terrible, but it was a rare opportunity
to get these two when they weren't fighting for best position.

11. You don't need...
...to put angle brackets (< and >) around the URL. They just show up in the post and look odd. Otherwise, it looks like you've got the basics down...now go forth and resize! (Does your image editor have a specific setting for saving to the web, like Photoshop does? It won't resize for you, but will compress the JPEG in the most efficient way for web display.)
