Excellent b&w conversion technique -- Photoshop

In addition to the usual "Channel Mixer", it also uses 3 "Selective color" layers, one for black, white, and gray values. Basically does what the "Levels" command does, but with much more control. And it throws in two different sharpening techniques (not involving "unsharp mask").

It produces very good results. Here's one of my photos I tried it on. Me like!



This is a photo of "Pompey's Pillar" in Montana. On the side of it is carved the signature of William Clark, of "Lewis and Clark" fame, along with many American drawings. It's the only on-site physical evidence remaining of their journey. Named after Sacajawea's son.
