Poll question: A quick yes/no poll.
Edited on Thu Aug-31-06 01:01 PM by CC
NV Whino brought up a "simple" theme. That got me thinking (and hoping I understood right) about everyone having to photograph the same item. The best example that I know everyone can find was an egg though not saying it would be an egg. Feedback on why you voted yes or no would be appreciated.

Would people be up for a challenge that used the same subject, putting their photo skills and creativity to the test over the subject matter?

1. As long as it's something that exists everywhere.
Don't choose 19th century architecture, for instance. There's none of that here in Anchorage.

2. Not thrilled with "Eggs"
Kinda' boring. But I like the general idea. Think the hard part will be coming up with an "item" that everyone would agree on. You may need to impose article 9 of the secret Contest Host rules.

Door, Window, Chair, Lamp, Candle, Table.... these kinds of things? Or egg, apple, banana, etc, etc???

5. I'm not thrilled about the idea at all...
...and would probably not enter such a contest.

10. I'm not that crazy about it either
unless it's something more interesting than an egg.

6. Well I vote yes for obvious reasons, but
I've always found it fascinating to see different artists paint the same scene at the same time. Given that we all live all over hell and gone, that wouldn't work, but photographing a universal object of some sort would. And I wouldn't lock it into egg or shoe or whatever. Tree would be just as interesting. Capturing the quintessential "whatever" is the challenge.

8. Haven't even begun to think of a
what but I do like the idea. Though it too could be a challenge. I would like to have one that fills up. I will wait for more input here and on the suggestion thread. I already did one strange theme.

9. Yes, I like the concept. But please not an egg. I'm vegetarian...
And it would be hard for me to do. But I like the idea otherwise.

13. which came first, the chicken or the egg? How about an egg of an idea?
eggsistentially speaking, eggs could be fun. Eggsactly how would be the challenge, but an egg is not just a chicken egg. Salmon eggs in the water? An egg is a beginning, ready to break forth into the greater world. Would seeds be considered eggs? Rabbit next to a basket? Chocolate egg melting down a chin.

14. I like this idea.
I see it as a variation on some of our other themes, such as "Green" and "Portraits" for instance. I wouldn't even mind having the egg contest.

Personally, I've always been keen on the idea of domestic animals as a theme: dogs, cats, fish, and thankfully CC would be out of the running with birds this month. :P But even if you don't own/have access to/are allergic to household pets, domestic animals include all barnyard animals.

OK, really, I just want an all-dog contest, but that's so speciesist, I'm ashamed to even post it. :silly:
