CONTEST RULES UPDATE
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 04:52 PM by RagingInMiami
Rather than limit the contest to the first ten entries, I will accept the first twenty entries. Then I will break the photos down into two contest polls and post them in the lounge for maybe a 12 or 24 hour period.

Then I will take the top two winners from each poll and post it in a new contest.

We will call it the Final Four Photo Contest.

Every month, we always get more than ten submissions and as the photograph group goes, we need to expand the contest to allow more people to participate.

EDIT: So feel free to post your photos on this thread or on the other thread.

1. We could have semi-finals here.
 Whatever.

I'd personally like to have some (at least rough) guidance regarding the components of judging. I have not, for instance, yet seen a photo that really exemplified any interpretation of the theme "Green." I really don't regard merely having the color in the photo as sufficient. I'd expect a photo of a golfing green, or something that treated the theme in an inventive/creative way. For me, photography is best when the creative ephemerals are evident - most obviously in framing and composition. Maybe that's just me.

2. Inventive? Creative?
We can't ALL be artists.

3. If we hold semi-finals here, then everybody will vote for their own photo
I agree with what you said about creativity. But that is what I like best about the Green theme. You're only limited by your creativity.

A photo that uses creative framing and composition to capture the Green theme is going to have a much better chance of winning than just simply taking a photo of golfing green.

6. Good. Then I'd have one of the only votes that counts.

Since nearly all of my photos are in storage and my scanner is kerplunkt, I'm in no position to enter any contest where folks are voting and entering with existing digitized photos.

FWIW, not everyone enters ... and if there're two semi-final polls then entrants in one poll would NOT be voting for themselves in the other poll (where they're not entered). Furthermore, even if I were to enter, I'm not at all sure I'd vote for my own entry if I thought another was better. I'd hate to think I was alone in this regard.

7. You're not
I haven't voted for any of my entries. I have a hard time judging my own photos because I've seen them so much it's hard to look at them with a fresh, critical eye. 98% of the photos I take I think are crap. Always thinking I should have done this or should have moved over 2 inches or should have opened up a half stop, etc., etc. The old "own worst critic" syndrome.

11. You are certainly not alone...
I wouldn't vote for my own photo, just because I would feel kinda LAME doing so.

Also, there is another entry I like alot, and I intend to vote for it.

I'm also my own worst critic. My entry was one of the first photos I ever took, and I think it shows what a novice I was then.
But I think the poor composition and angle are a fine example of my own "green-ness" at the time, so what the heck.

4. question ?
I'm about to leave town, will be gone about a week. Since I won't be voting, is it still OK that I have entered a photo or should I pull it?

Another idea is, If you have more than 20 entrants, you could pull my photo first since I won't be here.

Looks like some great photos so far.

5. You're not required to vote
But of course it helps you because I would assume you would vote for yourself.

9. I'm thinking of putting the first round up on thursday
the second round up on friday

and the final four over the weekend.

But nothing is set in stone so I'm open to suggestions.
