Would like advice on a simple, inexpensive, digital camera.
I received one for a gift 4 yrs ago. It was $350+ The batteries wouldn't stay charged and it was really complicated to learn. I actually gave it back to the person who gave it to me. I want a cheap and easy one. Just to take some photos of things I'd like to paint and sketch. Any suggestions?

1. Check out the canon A530
I just got one for 198.00. I also picked up a 256K card for it. It's easy to use and you can do fancier stuff than point and shoot, if so inclined.
There is a photo from it in this forum.

7. I'd recomment the A600 series over the 530
The 600's have a much better preview screen, and more importantly take FOUR batteries instead of two. I own an A620 myself, and use an A530 here at work. The A530 is a good camera, but it seems like I'm replacing the batteries every 150 photos or so. My 620, on the other hand, is good for about 500 shots per set.

Of course, for the price difference between the two, the OP could just invest in a good set of high Mah rechargeables and not worry about it :)

4. Here's where I did the bulk of the research on mine,
an Olympus Camedia 4000 (don't think its being sold anymore):

http://www.steves-digicams.com/

After I picked mine based primarily on information from Steve's Digicams it was named in the top 10 in two different lists. If you can find the one I bought it will work well for point and shoot AND if you want to move up to using more complex manual adjustments you can do that too.

Canon is the market leader. Nobody makes a better digital point and shoot camera.
