"Sunset in DU Land" - Target Dates and coordination
It's looking to me (crystal ball and my weather karma) like the upcoming extended weekend might offer the best opportunity for this team "happening."

Here're what I propose as the target date range...
Friday, April 8
Saturday, April 9
Sunday, April 10
Monday, April 11 <--- this is looking best for me
... with room to retreat into the next days.

As we close in on it, let's pick one that appears (with feedback from y'all regarding the prospects) to offer at least a clear-sky horizon in most DU locales, OK?

Sunset, now that it's Daylight Savings Time, is around 8 p.m. depending on where y'all are ... so work/dinner/etc. don't get too much in the way.

So, to summarize ... we'll each think about the location we'll shoot from and on the selected evening, go out and get the best we can as the sun sinks on the horizon. I don't think it's essential that the positions of the sun (above, touching, or partly below the horizon) have to be uniform. (Open to suggestions, of course.)

We'll try to keep the resulting submission around 640x480 (or so) with the horizon a bit below the mid-line of the photo, OK? (I think Blue_In_AK's lovely photos offer a super example.)

How do y'all want to handle the PhotoShopping? Want to keep it to a bare minimum? Or do you want to leave it totally open?

1. Any day is good for me.
I'll even be happy with a cloudy day on my end, if that's how the chips fall. :hi:

As to the photoshopping, I'm open to leaving it open. Never squelsch the creative spirit!

2. Kewl
Any of those days work for me. Might be T-Storms or Rain which could produce some unique shots. No problem. As for the Photoshopping? I know that for many it's just part of the process. I'd prefer a raw "in-camera" shot from everyone, but I understand the need to use Photoshop.

I do think that everyone should use a GPS and give their exact location.

Just kiddin'

3. "use a GPS and give their exact location"?? (I like that.)
 Actually, I'd like to be able to arrange 'em east-to-west, so longitude would help.

9. everyone should use a GPS?
Is a GPS something that everyone has now?

and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

11. I need to keep my "fingers" quiet
No, it was a ha-ha. A joke. A poor attempt at humor. You see, previously I suggested that the technical mumbo-jumbo be included with the sunset photos.... not well received ..... so the GPS comment was just a play on that.

4. Friday or Sunday would be best for me, since I have meetings
on Saturday and Monday. As far as working with photoshop I would prefer to keep it to a minimum.:hi: :loveya:  Thanks for setting this up TahitiNut.

5. Just tell me when and I'm there
Instead of focusing so much on the technical aspects, or whether or not we should PS, or whether or not we need a GPS tracking system (good one, by the way), I would rather just focus on the composition.

We all live in different parts of the country, and we each have our individual photography styles, and that is what I would like to see with this project.

A sense of place and a sense of individual photography style.

6. Friday I'll be at work
but might be able to time my lunch break around sunset. Saturday I'll be at a party and most likely will be indoors the whole time. Sunday I'm free. Monday same as Friday.

As for the weather forecast only Friday looks like a washout here (SW Va).

And the Photoshop issue; I would say basic contrast, levels adjustment and cropping would be ok since this seems to be more about where we are than creating great art. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that though.

7. Any of those days will work for me.
It's been cloudy here, and the five-day forecast is calling for more of the same, but I've been noticing a break around sunset time - which is currently 9:00 here. I'll make this work, whatever the weather. As far as Photo Shopping, I usually try to keep it to a minimum, although sometimes it helps to brighten things up a bit.

8. Correction: Sunset times are between about 6:50pm and 8:10 pm
... depending on whether y'all're on DST and whether y'all're at the eastern or western edge of your time zone. (I'm sorry for being provincial. I hate doing that.)

It seems to me we've got a good shot at it, and I think we need the three days between now and then for all the PG groupies to cycle through the group and arrange their schedules.

16. That's what it looks like to me.
I've been trying to watch the weather patterns across North America to get a sense when there'd be the least overcast. By guess and by gut, it appears Sunday night's about the best chance overall I've been able to foresee. While it seems there'll be some dramatic skies (good), the extent of overcast skies (bad) might be in remission as the weather systems move.

18. what is the targeted posting date.....is time being allowed for
completion of the roll and developing etc before posting?????

This is such a cool idea, sunset in DU land...I love it.

Sunday is best for me for actually taking the photos, but my digital is dead and I would rather use my MInolta 35mm anyway for this type of shot.

Just checking, that's all.

I could of course go out and shoot bluebonnets all afternoon and then get the sunset, run to the 1 hour at Walgreens and post the photos but things don't always work out exactly as we plan sometimes LOL

19. I don't think we really need a deadline.
While most have digital cameras (I think), filmies can do 24-hour just about anywhere. Lots of film processers give digitals, too. I'm only guessing, but it seems filmies would probably have their contributions ready quite easily by Thrusday or Friday.

If somebody can do a Flash animation, we might eventually get an east-to-west succession of sunsets. At the least, we can have a montage (or just a thread) of east-to-west sunsets.

... and would strongly prefer consensus. I'm not shy about saying what I think, though. ... and why.
