A Massachusetts barn

This is the barn behind the house of Louisa May Alcott, I just thought it was kind of cool :).

1. wonder what Louisa May kept in there?
does it date back to her residence there?

2. I'm thinking it's a newer barn.
The foundation looks to be built with cinder blocks, and I have never seen any New England barns from that time period with triangular windows.

But then, the Alcotts were ahead of their time in many ways, so who knows?

4. My guess is that the barn itself dats back to the original house

but that the cinderblocks and so forth were added later to shore up the building when it began to sink into the soft ground around there.

But I'm no expert :)

Also, in the original pic, there were some blue plastic tarps on the roof which I photo-shopped out because they ruined the picture. I'm guessing it was because of leaks in the roof.

5. Yes, it's a hard barn to date.
After I posted to Wanna, I went back and looked at the photo again. The side windows could certainly be from Alcott's time, and the width of the boards indicates old growth trees were used, which would indicate an older structure. Hard to know without being there.

And I'd have never guessed the photo was touched up in any way. Good job getting rid of those tarps!

6. If you saw it at full resolution, the touch-ups would be obvious :)
Reducing the size made them less noticeable. I certainly couldn't get a good print from it. :)

3. Very cool barn, ET.
An interesting bit of architecture for a barn!

I also have a NE barn shot. This one is of a tobacco barn in Southwick, MA.

I was driving to work on the backroads one foggy morning many moons ago and pulled over to snap this. The light quality was very strange that morning.
