So I'm sitting at home when I see these three youths run by my window
My first thought was, who are they running from?
But then I figured that they're running to catch the bus on the corner. A few seconds later, two cop cars come speeding down the same street. That was when I grabbed my camera bag and ran out the house.

It turns out, they were joyriding in a stolen van when they rammed into a pick up truck two blocks from where I live. The pick up truck ended up overturned and the three kids took off running. Luckily, the driver of the pick up truck was wearing a seatbelt and emerged with only a scratch on his arm. Here are some pictures I took.

What is it with these cops all looking the same down here?

This punk started mouthing off to me and then tried spitting on me. He missed, but you can see his spit.

The van they had stolen is in the background.

1. Will these be in print?
The best shot is the kid spitting at you, imo. Though the top one of the other kid getting cuffed is really good, too. I can't believe the truck driver walked away with only a scratch! Holy moly!

2. Yes, he was very lucky. He was laughing it off.
They won't be in print because stuff like this happens all the time down here. Now if the guy in the truck would have died, then I would be calling the newspapers.
Fortunately, that didn't happen.

I like the photo of the kid spitting at me as well, and the one of the kid handcuffed second.

Are you able to tell he is spitting at me if I did not say anything?

3. I don't think I would have realized it was spit.
I would have thought he was just mouthing off something, and my mind would have dismissed the white specks as some kind of reproduction mishap, like the pixels dropped out somehow. But spitting or not, it's my favorite picture. The look in his eyes, the defiant set to his lips says it all.

4. I'm impressed

Documetary photography is the hardest, and you get the whole story (missing the ambulance only in 3 pics, and the essence in the last one) More importantly, in the context of this group, they are framed well - close enough to see expressions and postures, but wide enough to show the context.
