Woodpeckers

The woodpeckers are back in full force. I found these red bellied woodpeckers fighting for territory. They are very gregarious creatures and not too destructive to trees as other woodpeckers are.

Two together

Solo

A male downy woodpecker was caught in the mix as well.

The ladderbacked woodpeckers aren't anywhere as numerous and in fact, this one is from the Central Texas Coast. It was cloudy and I had to use a flash thus the washed out appearance.

very elusive. They must be really shy, I've yet to manage to snap off a shot of them. :(

They are so much larger than American woodpeckers.

These are pretty small, yes, but I need to take a pic of a pileated woodpecker. Those guys are huge.
