1. "Red Fuzzies" = Red Bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis)

3. yes, that's it!
Those things grow like weeds around here. The one in my pic is right outside my apartment door.

My neighbor put a mop against it the other day. Very existential, don't you think? Don't ask me why. She's from Central America and doesn't speak much English.

2. "Pink Tropical" = Hibiscus (too many varieties to know)
That's a nice photo, even with the shadow across the top. Without it, it could be a stock photo, imho.

4. That's one of my favorites...
I like the perspective on the red bottlebrush photo though.

5. Technical reactions and things to try
Indian Paintbrush - the background is distracting. If your camera lets you do it, choose a wide aperture, and get the camera closer.

Little Purple Flowers - there's a lot of "stuff" in the background but because it is all the same color (more or less) it does not distract but instead frames the flowers. My favorite. The purple may have become a bit washed out (?) by the auto-exposure setting. If you camera allows you to over- or under-expose, try under-exposure by one stop (-1.0). This might make the green too dark, but experiments are fun. Another thing to try is to use a diffuser (like a white sheet) to "shade" the whole area.

Red Fuzzies - again, too much "extra" stuff.

Spring Bouquet - technically good - the lighting highlights the flowers and any potentially distracting background is blacked out and the colors of the flowers comes through.

Lily? - Here is another case where, camera permitting, choosing a wide aperture would throw the backgound out of focus, since it really isn't part of the subject of the photo.

Pink Tropical - another favorite. The shadow of the sex organ against the petals would be a much stronger feature of the image, setting it apart from other "pretty flower" pics, except the straight shadow distracts. Framing within the green is enough to give context and a contrast to the flower's color and texture. Try a slightly different time of day or saw off whatever caused the unwanted shadow.

6. That's a Peace Lilly in #5
They are sent quite often as gift plants (funerals, births, weddings, etc.) I have one from my father's funeral in 2002. :)

I really like the hibiscus photo at the bottom. I like the shadow, but would like to see it at a different time of day when the shadow is even more pronounced.

They're all good work. Hope you enjoyed taking them!
