Does anyone know what kind of insect this is?

it is pretty but, I have never seen it in these parts before... 25 years living here at this is the first time I have ever seen one of these....and I am outdoors at least 6/7 hrs a day for 3 of the seasons in upstate NY

My son had the camera.

Seriously, you might want to pm mike_c, dirct him to this thread. He's a bug expert, and has always been happy and able to identify mystery insects for me. :hi:

You might want to do search with that name. You've piqued my interest though. Alternately, could it be a very bright moth?

the antenna don't like moth-ish?

4. I really don't know although I do know that
from time to time I get some gigantic sphyinx moths around my place. Look at moths too if the netwing beetles weren't correct. Borer beetles can be very bright too but their wings aren't like the ones in the pic.

The antennae may not always be fully extended like that picture. Now I can go to bed. :)
