Went to the DeYoung Museum in The City today...
to see Chihuly's glass art exhibit. I'm pretty sure regnaD kciN did some gorgeous shots of this artist's work; his studio is up in Seattle.

Anyway; they don't allow tripods or flash (and my hands are very shaky, and I use essentially a point-and-shoot) but here are a few that turned out half-way decent. I am going to have to get a single-leg type support that rests against the body for times like these. Many of the shots were poor because I took it off auto, and the shutter speed was slower (about 1/60 on averagew, I think) and I just tremble too much...anywayyyyy...enough excuses.

If you have the opportunity to see this show by all means do it, my pictures don't nearly do it justice. Many of the displays are enormous and complex, but I did not capture them well.

:D

His pieces are stunning beyond words. Lucky you for getting to see a whole exhibit!

2. Very nice pics! Sounds like
a great exhibit. There is a Chihuly on permanent display at MAM (pic below), and one in the Minneapolis Museum of Art (sorry no pic of that one). What fabulous work. I can't even imagine how one would begin such a project.

4. Dale Chihuly's exhibits are not to be missed.
I seriously doubt any photography could convey even 10% of the visual experience. It's a KINETIC experience with the sense of flow and color and shape changing with every step taken in changing one's perspective. It's almost organic and, in some sense, alive. I never even imagined something like that could be done with glass. It's not just that each set-up has a different emotional impact, it's that that impact morphs with every step taken in a 360 degree viewpoint, and even with eye level. Amazing.

5. These are beautiful.
I particularly like the first one and the blue swirly glass. There is a Chihuly exhibit coming here this fall. I'll check it out. His work is amazing.
