FYI, these are the current (and future) themes...
of other photography sites I frequent:

Farktography

Contests start each Wednesday. Entries appear on Fark.com (for non TotalFark members) each Thursday at midnight EDT

Current: Panoramas
9/03/08 - Terminal Madness (terminals of any sort - plane, bus, rail, etc. Only no terminal illness submissions)
9/10/08 - Orange (Dominant color of the submission. No citrus allowed, however.)
9/17/08 - Lion and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! (Kinda self explanatory)
9/24/08 - In and Out (Inside and Outside in the same photo. HDR allowed.)

Contests in Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, new contest beginning at midnight EDT each night. 4 days to submit, then vote for 24 hours.

Current Beginner contests:

Fire (submissions end 9/2/08)
Depth of Field - People 2008 (people photos with limited depth of field) submissions end 9/05/08

Intermediate:
Window View - Views out a window. Submissions end 9/04/08

Advanced:
Fill The Frame - Subject must fill the entire frame. Submissions end 9/02/08
Toy Story 2008 - Creating fake models using your photographs. Submissions end 09/03/08
Soft - Things that are not hard. Submissions end 09/05/08

Now I know DS1 is a farktographer, any others among our fellow DUers?

Also, if you want very critical judging of your work, Worth1000 is the place to be...those are some tough contests. (I've done a few Photoshop contests there, and did manage one jury pick.)

Any other places DUers frequent for us photo nuts?

1. Farktography is some tough competition
when the pool opens to hundreds, there's bound to be first rate entries.

2. Sorry, I didn't mean to allude to the idea that farktography is easy
and you're correct, by sheer volume alone the odds are you are going to get some damned nice entries. And in every contest, I've seen great photos - things I'd wish I'd have taken. I meant that the commentary is much less critical on fark than on worth. Fark comments usually fall into "nice!" or "funny!" but hardly run to constructive criticism. However, the forums on fartography's site may be wildly different from the actual contest comments as posted on fark.

On Worth, all entrants MUST vote objectively for all other entrants, and each entrant has a "karma" multiplier assigned after each contest voted on. The closer you are to the average score of all judges and entrants, the more your own ratings count in future contests. Rate something too far from what the majority think, and you're penalized with less karma in the next contest. This also eliminates people trying to stuff the ballot box with undeserved high scores. Also, since each entry must be rated by each entrant, each entry has an associated comment log with it. You can even ask for criticism.

In all, my comment was intended to recommend worth as a means for aspiring photographers to be able to get objective, honest comments on their work.
