2008: Retrospective
As I have done for the past couple of years, my year-end review is based on two principles: one photo per month, and none of the photos having appeared here on DU before. (The second of these is always the hardest to manage, as I post practically every good shot I take over the course of the year.)

In January, we had the unusual event of a clear sky on the evening when the full moon would rise directly behind the skyline as viewed from West Seattle. In this case, a seagull adds a contribution of its own.

February found me testing out my wide-angle lens, via a trip to the other side of West Seattle, pointing the camera in the opposite direction from the previous month.

March brought a kid's birthday party, and this photo of Pansy behind the wheel in Speed (Childhood's End).

April is tulip season in the northwest, with this image one of many taken during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

May took me to Kuboda Garden, with this shot of a rhododendron by the side of a lake.

In June, Pansy and her school choir appeared at Seattle Center, giving me a front-and-center chance at an action shot.

July fireworks on Lake Union, with the Space Needle in the foreground.

In August, an early-morning drive to Mount Rainier National Park yielded this image from Reflection Lakes.

For reasons I can't explain, September found me taking practically no photos at all. Fortunately, there's a vantage point on Mount Rainier about a half mile from my house, which can be very useful when September 30th rolls around and I realize I have nothing worth posting for the month. Call this one, for reasons that will be obvious later, Rainier In Hiding I.

This October image is of some of the foliage around Easton Ponds on the other side of the Cascades.

With the weather closing in in November, I took the camera inside to the Seattle Public Library, catching this reflection of a patron...um...reflecting.

Finally, December brought us some of the most interesting atmospheric conditions I've seen around these parts, leading to Rainier In Hiding II.

:hi:

1. Those get a WOW! -- X12
Jan pic is stunning and puts the usual pretties from that location (Schmidt Park?) to shame. And the Feb pic from Lincoln Park or closer to the ferry dock really captures the magic of that view, even when seen in ordinary lighting. And. And. And. Skipping to the last, I've seen lenticular clouds over Mt. Rainier, but never wrapped around it. WOW! again.

4. I see Mt. Rainier makes lenticulars, as well.
That's always something I look for when we head up toward Denali. I think that's such a cool cloud formation.
