question about film

I am curious what kind of films there are and which is best for what. I am partial to black and white, but I HATE grain. I have always made do with basic kodak 100 speed, but it is so limted... I understand I may have to get over my grain issues, but is there anything out there I might try?

1. Fuji Reala 100 is awesome -- also look for slide film (again, by Fuji)

They are good with grain.

Also look for a computer software app called NeatImage. It removes grain very nicely...

Kodak has not made good film in YEARS. Heck, they can't even make a digital camera I'd even begin to recommend either...

I'll try that. Thanks also for the software recommendation. That is my next thing. I don't have any photo software since I got a new computer (photoshop 4 can't run on the new one :D )

4. Irfanview is free and surprisingly capable for the price..

I've used it on some images, combine it with the free version of Neat Image and you can do quite a bit..

The contrast is not as good but if you hate grain this is the film to use.

I love film grain. Ansel Adams' Pyro developer formulas produce gorgeous grain.
