A people panorama
Thanks to Fumesucker for the inspiration. This is made from two shots of a crowd at an event I photographed recently, but I liked it because the focus area in the two shots was completely different and resulted in a weird composite of focus points.

And apparently I missed birds as a recent obsession hereabouts. A little birdie told me so:

1. I like it, you're right about the focus points..
The lady right in the middle is the focal point of the whole shot, the expression on her face is rather bemused I think..

3. Yep. She was exactly the same in both shots, taken maybe a minute apart
so I think Autotstitch didn't have to work too hard to find the merge. Strange thing is the lecture that was being presented was really profound, though I'm biased because the speaker is someone I've already done some photos and design work to promote and I have a gig to do a portrait of her staff for their website coming up this week. I just can't imagine listening to the lecture, as I did, and having quite that reaction to it.

2. This is a really cool program
I'm seeing a lot of potential for fun, not to mention usefulness, in this program. The multiple focal points are interesting. If I didn't know it was autostitch, I'd wonder how on earth you did that.

psst, Every day is bird day. Didn't you get the memo?

4. Sad thing is, Tindalos, our neighborhood used to be thick with birds
and in recent years the decline is striking. The crows and the jays vanished with the coming of West Nile a few years back. The crows are finally beginning to return, but not the jays. We have a small back yard but it's heavily treed and used to attract cardinals, robins, grackles, and the occasional ring-billed gull (we're a 20-minute walk from Lake Ontario). I work at home and my window faces on to the back yard. There was a time when the racket from the birds out back would actually be distracting. Not so anymore. It's deeply saddening.

5. That's terrible
I didn't know West Nile hit them that hard. The crows here are so numerous they turn the sky black when they fly over to roost. There are definitely fewer songbirds though. Unfortunately, birds are in decline everywhere due to habitat loss and climate change. Poor little guys can't catch a break.

6. I worked briefly as a farmhand when West Nile
was sweeping through, and word would spread from hamlet to hamlet about dead crows in the streets and fields. It was that bad.

Back here in the city, crows used to wake me up some mornings well before the clock radio was set to go off. Doesn't happen anymore, but they have come down again from Taylor Creek north of us here in the Big Crab-Apple, and I love hearing their racket. It still seems tentative, though, compared to previous years.

8. I love the expression on the guy's face in the yellow shirt
to me, he is where my eye is drawn to.

What the heck is that in the back corner of the room? It looks like two men floating, but that can't be right.
