Let me boast about one of my kids' photos and invite you to view them
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 04:08 AM by ConsAreLiars
I put up a link a while back which included not only his extraordinary landscapes and plant pix (he talks to them and knows the common and Latin names and their Native uses and lore and much more) but also a sequence in which he was approached by a red fox (which ate a treat from his hand) and a marmot. He recently updated his gallery, and as well as adding more landscapes and plants, this time he was examined at close range by an antelope.

All pix are straight from the camera - no HDR woohoo post-processing or Photoshop tricks.

The easiest way to see them is via the slideshow link which makes them full sized: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyhayseed/show/ .

If you have a Flikr account (Yahoo won't let me in) go to the index pages and leave a comment: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyhayseed/ . Also go there to read his comments. They provide not only a sense of place in the geographic sense but about where he was.

To continue boasting (indulge me), while this (turn on, tune in, drop out) kid dropped out of HS (later got a GED in order to get into and complete a herbal medicine degree program), the other is the polar complement on the progressive side. Top of everything, full scholarships/fellowships to Swarthmore and Grad school at UC Berkeley and a powerful and effective progressive activist all the way through (including HS). Beat the crap out of Andrea Dworkin when she (Andrea) tried to sabotage her (my kid's) leadership role in organizing the first multi-racial GBLT Pride mprried and now have a daughter. Although their paths have been very different, both are best of friends and I could not have imagined having any better or more admirable kids.

And just to state the obvious, at any point a bit of bad luck or judgment, either or both, could have ended up very sadly. Or if they were born with different pigmentation or into a family which had resources less than our low/middle working class but educated context provided. I'm lucky. They are lucky. Every kid should have the same or better odds for a shot at being good, feeling good, doing good.

/end rambling and meandering/
