1. oh, no
Somebody please post a picture of a female. I can already tell it is going to be one of "those" contests.

Good first pic by the way, despite it being sexist. (LOL, just kidding). I have one of a security guard, too, but will probably use another picture I have of a MAN.

2. For a minute you had me going....
because I'm still checking to see if I did this post properly.

Now I remember the non-sensical male/female controversy from the "people at work" contest. By the way, I also think that's a poignant first photo, I envision him at the head of the photos to come, guarding them.

3. I agree
Would be cool if the random number generator thingie came up with a "coincidence" like the World at Work did. It gave everyone a few laughs. If someone posts a picture of a person engaged in robbery, maybe you should cheat a bit and follow it up with the security guard.

I know the (male) entry that I want to make, but I am mulling over titles. None stands out as being the best. As I stated before I really have no choice of pictures, because after this one I decided--NO MORE STRANGERS, and you may see why.

4. I will take into condsideration females.
I am having a helluva time though. I have literally dozens of stranger portraits to choose from. I really don't know how to pick.

5. Knowing your work - I'm in a cold sweat with you. I knew all along this would
be a tough choice for you specifically. I'm still laughing about your "friend of Bill's" photo from the Phish crowd. I just got home today, and my next door neighbors were returning from Asheville and asked me: Have you ever heard of Phish?
I had to laugh.

6. It literally was a coin toss between my male and female pic, and then there was
my male dressed as a female.

15. Decided to go with
my female stranger.

I don't usually photograph people but when I was going through my archives I found a lot more than I thought I had.

This was a good choice for a contest (at least for me) since it made me take a good look at all the people shots I've taken. I end to dismiss them and to my amazement I found a few that weren't all that bad.

16. Glad you feel this way. Beautiful depiction of your stranger, too. I have run across
the same thing looking for animal shots, which I don't usually do. And now suddenly I'm finding a lot of them.
The contests stretch us and I like that.

17. General comments: I like how this is shaping up. We have a lot of beauty
accumulating in the submissions, all the sizes are good, and in spite of the tight subject matter the submissions run the gamut of "all over the place".
I hope you folks are having fun. I am loving this.

24. I had a lot of old portraits from the sixties, but I decided to try a
new one because I have been reluctant to approach a stranger and ask to take their picture.

28. For me the subject of the contest presented the photographers with a potential stretch
beyond our comfort zone.
I think that is possibly evidenced by the unusual number of undecided folks asking for help chosing with polls and queries.
I'm having fun watching.

30. I get it. I had only one time in recent memory where a stranger to me asked me
if he could take my picture. It felt really funny, but he was a pro with lenses the length of my arm, and I'm vain, he probably thought I was cute.

(the occasion was the mall in Washington, the inauguration of our President Obama)

35. HA! You're the one who used the word "projecting". It could easily work the other way.
Until my neck started to sag, and my hair turned darker (though no gray which is weird), I had no problem being in front of a camera. What's funny is that most candid photos of me show me taking a photo, since this is a decade old reality, why don't I know more about photography?

I used to be quite a poser if called on...

37. I know a couple pro photographers and they don't like their photo taken.
My sister in law is an avid photographer, but shies away from the camera when pointed at her.

Me, I feel that I am not photogenic.

36. I usually don't take pictures of strangers...
and was tempted to use a shot from a live model shoot, but while I was in Times Square sitting with some friends, this little girl was hiding from her brother behind us. I said, "If you're going to hide here then you have to let me take your picture." She gave me a wonderful smile.
BTW Mira, you're doing a great job running the contest.

38. Yeah, in the case of the Japanese
A lot of them were performers or hawkers of some type. In that case they are asking for their pictures to be taken, as far as I am concerned. Just one was a random crowd shot, but taken with the pocket camera.

The one I entered I was taking as we pulled away from the boat dock in the boat. I thought he wouldn't notice that I was taking his picture, but I think the evidence is in the picture. That may be the last time that I purposely take a picture of a stranger that is not performing in some way. Maybe I should have entered the Elvis impersonator. Hmmm.

41. Mine was at an anime convention
It was a fairly safe place to get photos of strangers because people are happy to show off their costumes. Mostly, I took pictures of people standing around posing for other photographers and I didn't have to ask them. However, when I saw the subject of my picture walking through the crowd, I had to stop and ask for her picture because she's so beautiful.

43. That is an AMAZING picture
I love the woodsprite picture--love it, love it, love it!!!

I would say that people dressed up as anime characters in public are asking for getting photographed.

And sny public performer or sales person on the public streets is asking for the same thing, as far as I am concerned.

45. Yes, I agree re the street performer thing
If people are performing in some way, then I feel more comfortable taking their picture. At the con, the cosplayers put a lot of time and effort into making their costumes. They appreciate the positive feedback.

It was between them and "Matthew Don't You Dare Call Me William". I chose the ladies for a bit more context and more subject matter.

This is a great contest, all of the entries are great.
