P.P.S. I entered all the photos in the order each person entered the contest, even if they later replaced their pics with something else. So it went in the order of entry, but not final submission. If that makes sense to you all.


And because I had to do this really quickly because I'm at work, there was one photo that exceeded the size limit and I re-sized it myself and uploaded it from my photobucket account. I didn't want to leave this any later than it already was.

My only recommendation is that you should put a link to each of the other polls in each poll.

I knew I would miss something as I was trying to do it while I was relieving our receptionist for her lunch and kept getting interrupted. Drat!

I took a look at the prelim thread with my photo in it and one of the first things that crossed your mind was "Crap, I'm up against XXXXXX and XXXXXX"? And this thought occurred before I looked at the voting. It also came despite knowing full well that my reaction would have been the same regardless of which thread the photo was put in, the only difference being the names. Is this common?

And another odd phenomenon is that sometimes my photos that I have little hope for do really well, and ones that I love bomb. There's no explaining the collective taste of the denizens of GD.

That's why I was careful to maintain the order of entry to the submission thread so it was the merely the luck of the order and no funny business to be suspected. It even made it extremely hard for me to vote in some cases.

I got off work and went to do my volunteer duty for our food coop. I'm absolutely exhausted but I wanted to tell you the story of posting these threads today.

I decided to take a risk. I knew there was a go against me but I had limited time while at work to get it done. And sure enough, I ended up having to backtrack.

I opened 4 threads. One was the submission thread and three were for the contest threads. I knew there was a good chance that the system wouldn't let me post with so many tabs open. Think it's an anti-spam control thing. But I had been able to do it before with only two tabs open so I took my chances.

I had all the threads loaded and tried to post the first one and it wouldn't take it. So, very quickly I opened up WordPad and pasted the title and body of each thread into one document. Then went back and opened one thread at a time and pasted the stuff back in, then added the titles into the poll options.

For anyone who has never run this contest before, creating a WordPad doc before you do anything is the best way to go. The doc had the body of each thread including the titles and links to the pics so I could just copy and paste and post as quickly as I could.

Sometimes you just roll the dice and it doesn't work out, but lesson learned and it turned out okay in the end except for forgetting to include links to the other two threads in each one.

It looks like it's going gangbusters and it could be anyone's to win. I think the field is so incredibly strong this time, too. And everyone keep in mind that art is subjective. As someone posted here not long ago, even one vote is affirmation of your talent.

I'm kinda glad I'm sitting this contest out because I have nothing to compete with the submissions this month.

to have the prelim threads locked and they're still open. Nobody watching the store? :shrug:

I did that, and there were a few votes that came after I closed the threads in the half hour it took to lock them by the mods.
I then did not count those votes.

I didn't want to kick them back up to the top.

Edited to add: I just went and wrote down the numbers at least. So there won't be anymore votes counted.
