My rejected possibilities, uploaded to photobucket already so why waste the links
I would really appreciate some feedback especially since the interpretation of the theme is so fluid.

I was gone a good many hours, and we are still stuck on submission number 22

(I was at a concert, a world class pianist already invited to play at the Obama White House, performed the Rhapsody in blue, Gershwin. He was at the White House before, invited by the Clintons. I got to shake his hand, I will never wash it again, Awadagin Pratt. All lovers of piano virtuosity and classical music might want to google him)

Back to my pictures, these are the ones I planned to chose from, and then I just walked out to my porch and shot my jugs.

A truck parked a block from here
Along came a spider

What it means to "live under a rock" Arizona

The Umbrella that lives on my truck bed

A wheel used in a gold mine, left to rot since it was closed in 1942

A rocker in that same abandoned mine, will it still rock me?

The one I really wanted to use, a silver mine museum in Utah, very lovingly preserved

A gate I walked past going up to the castle in Freiburg, Germany

1. Love the first one
but would crop out the sky part so it would be even more difficult to recognize as a truck. The spider web really adds to the composition. The next is the umbrella. Love the compostition and colors.

3. Thank you. I left in the sky, because I wanted to preserve the truck body for ID/
I did not want to obliterate the contest theme by making things too obscure.
I thank you for your feedback. How can I progress without it?

5. You do just fine!
I think, as least for me, I like images that draw you in and force you to look twice, or sometimes 3 times to tell what it is. That element of mystery keep things interesting!

Granted sometimes you want to be clear as to what you are shooting; other times it's fun to play with the viewer.

2. My dear Mira!
I'm so glad you posted these!

They are all wonderful, but here are my favorites:

The umbrella!

The gold mine wheel!

And the silver mine museum!

Those are easily as good as the jugs on your porch...

Thanks for sharing, sweetie...

4. Thank you, CAPeggy, you understand how difficult it was to chose.
I chose the "jugs" because I wanted to be sure to not miss the wabi-sabi theme.

6. To me, many of these are wabi sabi
Although the museum is a bit too perfectly preserved, IMHO. The rocker is WS but not that interesting.

I actually love the umbrella picture, but it may be more dirty than WS.

I don't really personally get the feel of WS with the rock pic.

That leaves the truck picture (too cool!! love that one no matter how you crop it)

The gold mine wheel--this one I love as well, though it looks a bit too nice for WS, even though it definitely qualifies.

The last one is a great WS picture, but I prefer horizontal pictures for contests, personally.

So, I would say, for contest purposes only, my first second and third choices are the truck, the truck, and the truck.

7. I may forever struggle with the concept, which is why I could not choose
Edited on Sun Oct-11-09 11:13 AM by Mira
To me it's kind of like the Velveteen Rabbit. Loved and used and worn down but still, or because of it, a thing of beauty that has not outlived its usefulness, or just found a new use.

Thanks for looking and thank for you comments.
And I also prefer horizontal pictures, almost always. An incredible exception was Miss Honeychurch's steps to the monastery with the woman going up.
I'll never forget that one.

8. I just love the last one
That gate seems to exemplify the theme, at least as I understand it.

And while the umbrella shot might not, it too is exceptional.

9. Love them
I love them all, especially the top four (don't ask me to narrow it down further - I'm not sure if I could).

10. Thank you, makes me feel happy, Cynic. I realized
it's been a year now that I have participated here, and to get that kind of feedback is special.
I feel, right or wrong, like a regular now.
And I also feel, hopefully right, that I have come a long way in learning from the comments and examples of the people here who have accepted me so kindly.

I'm planning to show the whole truck in a special thread.
Awesome truck. A true find a block from my house.

And I also want to show one or two of that awesome museum of mining, which will augment your perspective.

I am very grateful for my opportunities for travel. Mostly they have come from impertinently asking: can I come? in situations where some of the costs were covered by others somehow without my being exploitive. Just stuff that was happening anyway, and I horned in.

One of the things I taught my kid is that : You have the right to ask, and the other has the right to say no.

11. A delightfully delicious menu from which to choose!
But I love the rock -- it immediately suggested a sane perspective of our place in the universe. Amazing.
