Poll question: Vote on the theme for the August photo contest
I will keep this poll up until Friday around 6 p.m. eastern time to give everybody a chance to vote, but allow people to know the theme so they can start taking photos next weekend if they wish.

1. I could take the easy way out with "nature"
But I think I'll abstain on this poll and go with the flow. Is that okay?

6. A question for the Grand Photpah
Master of Light. King of the Image. Holder of the "Golden Eye". A question....

I like "Night" and "Movement", but Movement may be a little intimidating for people. I would argue that "movement" can be captured with slow and fast shutter speeds. It can also be captured with moving (panning) the camera.

But suggesting a slow shutter may be having a few people going... "huh? what? I just push the button and take pictures. I have to use a slow shutter speed?"

Just one of my late night jelly brain posts. Consider. Reply. Trash. Rant. The choice is yours.

Congrats BTW. Well deserved.
:applause:

7. You're right.
That was just one example but of course movement can be captured a whole bunch of different ways. I didn't mean to confuse anybody. If it does get chosen, then I will make this very clear to those who have not read this post.

Thanks for the congratulations.

12. Being "wired" sucks
I used up ALL of my flash cards. Tons of snapshots. But I forgot the number one rule when taking snapshots....."remove the lens cap" so I got nuttin' to share.
:silly:

8. I would have voted for sex, but...
...I'm not sure we'd get many entries. I don't have anything close to fitting that category and am not even sure what I would try to take a picture of to enter. Probably look for a statue of lovers.

So I voted for Night, but any of the other are fine with me.

13. I voted for red out of sheer amaturism
I don't know anything about night or movement photos.

Yes I know, it would have been an opportunity to learn. If either of those win, I will learn.

I respond to the color red, anyway.

...so far who place such a high priority on sex.

Either that, or most photographers find sex too difficult.

27. Something tells me....
That at few people have some killer "reflections" photographs. I guess I might try to give this contest a go. Need to get crackin' and find some kewl "reflections".

Assuming of course that "reflections" will prevail. :P

29. That's my big question...
Shouldn't "reflections" have the provision that it not involve reflections in water? Otherwise, we're just going to have the same sort of water photos that many people submitted this past month.

31. not necessarily
RiM could say that no submitted pictures from recent (or all previous) contest are allowed. That way the problem would be solved.

And as a show of good faith, I hereby promise not to use any water reflection shots that I've shown here before, contest or otherwise.

32. I see your point
(and disclaimer...I haven't voted), but maybe people voted for "reflections" because they have some cool water reflection shots, and would have voted for something else if water was going to be disqualified. I think it should be left open for whatever anyone wants to submit.

34. Water is an excellent mirror
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 02:08 PM by F.Gordon
And we had an entire thread on it awhile back....

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=280x4718

I hear what you're sayin' though. I took a peek at a D-70 Group Challenge on the same theme and "water reflections" was clearly the largest vote magnet.....

http://d70.smugmug.com/gallery/172344/1/6611886

But... if you browse the submissions in this challenge/contest there are a number of other ways to obtain "reflections". In the highly unlikely :eyes: chance that "reflections" will be the theme.... I guess it's thinking outside the box time.

Edit? Spell check is your friend.

35. We're leaving on a four-day road trip
to the Copper River valley, Wrangell-St. Elias area tomorrow morning, so I won't be around for the final poll results. Raging, if you're going to preclude water reflections, please say so now, otherwise that's what I'll be going for, as well as some red, night and moving, just in case they come from behind. I don't like to beg, but I do hope you'll leave reflections in water as an option.

41. O.K. -- The moderator has spoken...
Of course, since my photo was one of the water-themed ones that didn't feature a reflection, I can't re-submit. I have lots and lots of other water-reflection ones, though, so I shouldn't be short of choices!
